Man, I remember when you first came in. Jacking up missed threes from all over the court. I wondered how long it would be before you were benched. But you never quite. You have become the real deal. Hard work and dedication pays off. You will be missed. Thank you.

Gainey came to play against Houston today. He's come to play almost all year. A long way from the way he started with Tennessee. Gratifying to get to watch him stick with the Vols and become the player he's been this year.

In my opinion, he was the most unsung player on the team. He should have been the go-to guy many times today. He was the only one who was playing up to his ability.

It was night and day how he played this year vs last year.

This freaking guy turned into the best sixth man I can ever remember. Shouldā€™ve started! What a tournament, what a senior season! Just brought it today. Players like Gainey make me proud to be a VOL!

What a dog This guy is. Came up with no expectations whatsoever and became an unbelievable second wave this year. What a representative and example for every Vol come through the program in the future

When the team really needed a clutch shot this year they put the ball in his hands for the layup, mid range in the paint , or the long three. He made shot after shot that ended up being the difference in winning and losing in many games. You could see exhaustion in his face but his determination carried him on. Lion heart.

Jordan never really got his due because he blossomed late and only had two years here, but the fact that the Vols never came out for introductions because he was the "sixth starter" says everything about his impact here.

He was a super clutch gamer who was at his best in the toughest spots, like yesterday. An all time dog and the epitome of a VFL.

The last 2 years have been frustrating to watch Gainey at times. There were nights when he was off he would just not quit shooting. Too many 1-6 nights. But his career reminds me so much of Josh Richardsonā€™s. Josh was similar his first 3 years. Great defense, but frustrating on offense until the post season of his junior year and the light switch flipped on. He became our best player on the floor.

Over the past month or so Gainey has been that player. I thought I would never say it, but when we were struggling Sunday in the first half, I said we need Gainey in to take over this game to give us a chance.

I would LOVE to have Gainey one more year. I think we would see another senior Josh Richardson.
