Here we go! Again, only SEC head-to-head games are compiled. No out of conference games.

Spreadsheet on Google Sheets where you have to login to a Google account to view. http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pbniaquqJRRW61JUJoXlGFg

Rushing - 12(Arky #1)
Passing yds. - 3 (UK #1)
Pass. Efficiency - 6 (LSU #1)
Total Offense - 9 (LSU #1)
Scoring Offense - 2 (LSU #1)
Avg. Defense Faced - 2 (Auburn #1)
Rush Defense - 11 (UF #1, yet to face DMac)
Pass Defense - 6 (LSU #1)
Pass Eff. Defense - 6 (LSU #1)
Total Defense - 9 (LSU #1)
Scoring Defense - 8 (UF #1)
Avg. Offense Faced - 1
Net Punting - 3 (Auburn #1)
Punt Returns - 1
KO Returns - 12 (Arky #1)
Turnover Margin - T2 (UK #1)
Sacks - T10 (UF #1)
Tackle For Loss - 1
Sacks allowed - 6 (Arky #1)

UT faced the hardest Opposing Offenses in the SEC, and 2nd toughest Defenses. Running game, on both sides of the ball, needs some work, as well as the KO returns, as well as getting more pressure on opposing QB's. Hopefully, with the experience from this year and the offseason to work on it, that will come around next year.

Another stat I just compiled on the defense/offense for UT alone. Definitely a 2nd Half team thru the course of the SEC schedule with a few exceptions (LSU/UF/USC)

Scoring 1st Half - 87
Scoring 2nd Half - 125

Points Allowed 1st Half - 101
Points allowed 2nd Half - 71

total off 9
total def 9

Frankly, that sucks. To me, those stats tend to portray the efficiency and execution of the team on a consistent basis as good as anything. We're just not a very good football team right now.

We were outgained in 5 of 8 SEC games this year.

Another 5th place finish in the SEC.

Our Rushing offense and Defense had a large part to do with those overall rankings. I hope they seriously work on those 2 facets before/after the bowl game.

One thing that would help our OL is to totally dismantle the Jimmy Ray Cyrus catch-and-release technique of blocking defensive linemen.

The most important part about those stats, and a DIRECT reflection in why we were ranked where we were......

UT faced the hardest Opposing Offenses in the SEC, and 2nd toughest Defenses.

I agree . . . I think he screwed up the o-line to the point that it is going to take a couple of years to develop any consistency.

It just doesn't make sense to me that CPF allowed this catastrophe to fester under his nose; then ignored it for 7 years; and the fact that it is the position nearest and dearest to his heart.

I know zone blocking has been all the craze from the NFL down, but the way we've gone about it is strangely "bafoonish."

I wonder how much of our recent upswing (if you can really call it that) in rushing performance can really be atrributed to the run blocking and not just Coker's skill. If it's jsut coker's skill, scary to think what would happen if the OL gets in gear.

I won't go digging for it, but Freak and I were talking about this on here almost 3 years ago. I agree completely . . . it makes no sense why we went to this finesse zone blocking style and went about it by letting our linemen balloon to crazy weights which rendered some of them completely ineffective.

I am in no way qualified to evaluate something as nuanced as Offensive Line coaching, but it sure looks suspect.

I'm not an expert either; far from it. But I have talked to some ex-OL guys about it and they said the same sorts of things.

Expert or not, if you're going to zone block and give leverage -- and the other pass protect schemes we do that suck and turn guys loose all of the time -- study someone like the Broncos that know how to do it with athletic linemen.

It's like we did the total opposite of the right thing every step of the way.

Oh yeah, and our route running and route design/combinations are questionable too...now that I'm foaming.

It also didn't help matters that we were trying to run zone plays with RB's that looked like they were suffering from tunnel vision.

Would it be too much to ask for them to just start teaching fundamental blocking? Taking your guy, moving him back, creating a hole? Everything starts with the line and thats the ONE area we are severely deficient in.

I can't wait to see how the young guys play in the bowl game after some intense practices. You worry so much about the coming opponent that it is hard to see the big picture some times so this extra practice will help the young guys ( next year's line) the most. We lose Ligon (easily replaced) and Sears (will be missed).
