I don't know the specifics about those rules, but if you're talking about the infamous math class they need to have passed, that's an SEC rule.

No, the one im talking about is that a "c-" in a class doesn't transfer...The class would have to be taken over at UT...

If that's UT-specific then I guess the onus is on Butch Jones to address it if he feels it's an issue. I don't believe that restrictions on JUCO recruiting are hurting us that badly anyway, but that's a matter of opinion.

Fulmer and Dooley both claimed that it was a problem...I'm guessing it is...

Oh goodie ... another thread to do away with academics.

BULL$HIT! Academic standards are part of life at a university. If a kid wants to play football, he should learn to study or accept the fact that he may have to go to JUCO.

Does Bama do that? HELL NO AND LOOK AT ALL THE CHAMPIONSHIPS THEY ARE WINNING

azz cheeks has set a way too high entrance standard for our gravy train...football. Hell even Vandy has lowered its standards, Booger man wants us to be the Princeton of the south...not ever going to happen. We can not catch the big SEC dogs in recruiting in any mens sport with another sissy working the AD like Hamilton or Cheeks. I listen to Tony B's station on Saturday mornings. They speak plainly unlike the other shill stations. And they voiced this same comment. Higher standards than most SEC schools=less butts in seats and less money due to piss poor performance because you can not make an even playing field in recruiting/hire dollar tree coaches and give (not entitlement) $6 bigs a year to academia more than most schools in div I. CBJ has his hands tied somewhat because of this. I am not a Dr of sports management this is just what they said and IMHO only. Please discuss and peace.

The University of Tennessee is an academic institution primarily with an academic mission. Cheeks' primary job is to support the academic mission.

Am I negavol if I care more about the value of my degree than the success of the athletics program?

The Cheek apologists can flame you all they want, but some facts are:

1. JUCO players can't use their JUCO grades to calculate their GPAs at UT. Opponents can. Cheek rule.

2. A grade of C minus is a D at UT and a C minus with our opponents. Cheek rule.

There are other facts that put us at a disadvantage academically and financially as well.

Why should anyone be able to transfer their GPA into another institution? It is generous enough of institutions to even accept credit; however, since there exists no universal syllabus across all colleges for all courses, there cannot exist any universal grading metric. Someone taking discrete mathematics at Hutcheson Community College is probably taking a class that would hardly be recognizable by someone taking discrete mathematics at MIT or CalTech.

2. A grade of C minus is a D at UT and a C minus with our opponents. Cheek rule.

Individuals "earning" C minus's in college ought to on academic probation.

There are other facts that put us at a disadvantage academically and financially as well.

Do tell.

I would agree with you except our opponents who are killing us on the field do not have to play by the same rules.

That is not Cheeks' problem. Again, his mission is to do everything to further UT's academic mission. There might be an argument to be made that a better athletics program contributes to and is a necessary condition of a better academic program, but making such an argument appears to be a daunting task.

If you will go back you will see the academic standards were changed in 2002.

2002? Cheek came here in 2009. The UTAD was put under the direction of the Office if the Chancellor in August 2010.

I love how you dim bulbs demand less learnin'.

You need to buy some facts the academic standards for admissions of athletes is higher than those that the NCAA and sec have set. If your so concerned about academics then maybe you shouldnt be on a sports related message board or is this your way of getting revenge for being picked last in dodge ball

Your punctuation stinks, and the contraction for 'you are' is you're - not your.

I'm sorry - what were you on about? Too high academic standards? lmao

Winning championships=increased revenues=more money for academics=higher professor salaries and better facilties= better academics.

This is a formula even the most devoted egghead should understand. It is sad that they don't.
