There's a lot of chatter about the matchup this coming year. There will be 5 at SEC arenas, 5 at Big 12 arenas. Nothing official yet, as ESPN is still finalizing everything, but these are the likely matchups as of a few days ago. Should be announced soon. I like the match up with Baylor. Should be a good OOC game for our resume. KY and Kansas not meeting is a joke.

Kentucky/Texas
Missouri/West Virginia
South Carolina/Kansas State
Florida/Kansas
Tennessee/Baylor
Ole Miss/Iowa State
Alabama/Oklahoma
LSU/TCU
Texas A&M/Texas Tech
Arkansas/Oklahoma Sta

Good grief. That's ridiculous. Heaven forbid the one of the NCAA's golden geese starts off the non-con season with an early loss.

Solid! I LOVE the matchup against Baylor. I also like the South Carolina / Kansas State game with the Frank Martin connection.

The only thing I'd change is...

UK / KU would have made more sense but Self will have a young team and I don't see a UK or Florida team having much problem with them. I hope it's at Phog Allen just to make it interesting. A young UK team on the road in that environment would be fun to watch. Florida will dismantle them.

UF / OSU - would be a heck of a game. Both are top 10 teams with final 4 potential IMO.

Texas A&M / Texas - No explanation needed. That would be fun. Not sure how solid Barnes squad will be this year but they haven't done much lately.

Either way, besides the ACC, this is as solid as it gets in terms of conference battles. I'd hate a Big 10 / SEC battle or a Pac-12 / SEC battle.

UK not playing Kansas about sums up the rest of their OOC games really weak.

Ironic that Missouri is not paired against any of its old Big 12 rivals, but instead gets stuck with West Virginia. That had to be a Big 12 political decision.

Let's see:

Michigan State (at the United Center Chicago)
Baylor (at Cowboys Stadium)
North Carolina (at Chapel Hill)
Louisville (at Rupp)

what's UT got to top those?

Baylor is playing Kentucky in this. They had there prior engagement with them folded into the challenge. So, UT/Baylor and UK/Texas is incorrect. UK/Baylor is the only one confirmed so far.

Pretty sure that the Baylor game that you are referring to is not part of the SEC / Big 12 challenge. That part of the home / away contract that KY has with Baylor. Baylor beat KY at Rupp this year. I think they will play Baylor and Texas.

UK also plays Providence in the Barclays Center, Belmont in Rupp, and Boise State in Rupp. All of those match ups are decent if not amazing.

Tennessee's marquee games are:
@ Wichita State
@ Xavier
Virgina
Unannounced Big 12 challenge opponent
Battle 4 Atlantis (Top billing is Kansas, UT, Nova and Iowa)

UK's schedule is NC-SOS should be stronger than UT's, but both will likely be in the top 15.

Here's a link from ESPN stating it's being folded in. Keep in mind that IS Kentucky's final non-con schedule so no, they aren't playing Texas. There are going to be no modifications from what they announced.

You are correct on the Baylor issue. I have not seen confirmation on the challenge opponent.

This is incorrect. Kentucky already has 13 non conference games scheduled. That is the limit. You are not allowed any more than 31 games, which they will be at with the conference schedule.

I agree with your assessment and I was not attempting to knock UT's schedule. I was merely pointing out to the other poster some tough OOC matchups.

Also - kudos on the ESPN link. I had not seen mention that our Baylor contract was to stand as our challenge game. Thanks for the info.

Knowing Cal from his Memphis days, he is the master of two things with his schedules:
1. Neutral sites
2. Scheduling teams who were very good the year before but have lost key players.

Not knocking him, just his MO.

UK has a stronger OOC schedule than UT does. But still, both have solid OOC games.

UK / Baylor makes sense because it's already set up. Who is the other game at Cowboy stadium or is that the only game being played?

1.) is a punk move but really smart. The thing that bothers me is Kentucky can get elite talent without playing games in other markets or creating a bigger stage. The name alone and his track record of putting kids in the NBA is plenty enough. Isn't that why the Indiana series was canceled because he wanted to move it to Indianapolis and IU wanted no part of it?

I haven't noticed a trend with number 2 so I can't agree or disagree. Either way, I don't like Cal :)

Well, if we are considering criteria for the NCAAT Committee, then the tougher schedule may not be better.

Yea, neutral games were probably more beneficial for a place like Memphis. But the college experience is all about home and home series with good teams. Fans should be rewarded with home games. I believe he also wanted the UT-Memphis game moved to Nashville.

The second one may not be on purpose, but I have noticed that.

I'm not sure if there is a second game. There was a rumor that the undercard would be a UK vs Baylor Womens game. But that's probably not accurate.

Baylor should not be a problem. Their toughest man is in the WNBA now.

Shouldn't you be busy trolling Robert Morris boards?
