First sign I saw…

Indeed it was. I was there as a freshman…to this day the only time I’ve ever been to Sanford, which is why I had to snicker when that sign popped up. Hard to imagine not knowing the history of your own program, but I suppose it’s one of the things that makes VolNation so special.

You know, I just had an idea. Saving goalposts would be easy for a school. Why doesn’t the school simply coat the goalposts with grease before the game? Will not affect the game in the least but will make it impossible for anyone to get a grip on the crossbar

Why wreck a celebration? How many times has a kick drawn iron? A greased goal post might matter.

They started tearing them down with over a minute left in the game. And this was a week after LSU (coached by Lord Saban himself) tore theirs down after beating us.
Seemed that every team except Florida that beat us in the late 90s, early 00s tore down their goalpost. Arkansas did it in 99. Heck if bama broke the streak in 01 or 03 instead of at Neyland in 02 they would have tore down their entire stadium and burned down Tuscaloosa.

To be fair, we had beat them 8 or 9 years in a row before that game.
Yep. And Casey Clausen was recovering from shoulder problems so we had to play AJ Suggs at QBs. Couldn’t throw it down the field to save his life.

…and I missed the 1st half because my $&&@$ sister chose to get married that day?!

I was there in ‘02 when Bama broke it. It’s a wonder they didn’t at Neyland 😄

Bama was leading early in the 4th quarter in ‘01. Many fans were already on the field getting ready. They were extremely disappointed.

Has Bama ever rushed the field? Read an article about a month ago that stated they have never rushed the field.

In the modern era, yes.

Alabama is one of four SEC schools that’s never been fined since the league banned field/court-storming celebrations in 2004. Georgia, Mississippi State and Florida are the other three, but the history goes deeper than the last 17 years.

We’re going back to the days of coach Ears Whitworth here.

Alabama football slipped far from the early success of Wallace Wade and Frank Thomas to the point of a 19-game winless streak from 1954-1956. So while a 13-12 win over Mississippi State might not seem like much to celebrate today, the Denny Stadium homecoming crowd of 25,000 was apparently quite impressed. Photos from the next day’s Tuscaloosa News showed fans on the playing surface celebrating with players after chanting about wanting a new coach in the second quarter.

Alabama fans say they’ve never rushed a field. We looked into it. - al.com
