The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Smith is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 72 overall prospect and No. 6 athlete in the 2020 class. In the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, he's ranked the No. 184 overall player and No. 9 athlete in the 2020 class. Smith told 247Sports' Blake Alderman last week that the Vols were one of a handful of teams standing out to him, along with Florida, Georgia, Texas A&M and Florida State. Smith said at the time that those five teams are "just talking with me the most and keeping up with me a lot."

He also said last week that he's "hoping to take" an official visit to Tennessee, along with Alabama and "maybe" LSU and Miami. He said he's "thinking about" taking an official visit to Texas A&M, too. "I don't know, but the visits could be in the summertime or some in the fall," Smith told Alderman. "I honestly haven't set things up. Just kind of thinking about things."

Tennessee extended a scholarship offer to Smith almost a year ago, and he now holds offers from at least 20 schools, including Florida, Florida State, Texas A&M, Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Notre Dame and South Carolina. In recent months, he has been on unofficial visits to Florida, Florida State and Georgia. Both predictions on the 247Sports Crystal Ball point to Florida State as the current favorite to land him.

Smith is a football and track standout who's being recruited by many teams as a possible cornerback or wide receiver. He has personal records of 10.39 seconds in the 100 meters and 21.14 seconds in the 200 meters, according to athletic.net, along with 25 feet 3.25 inches in the long jump. He admitted to Alderman last week that he wants "to play receiver in college." Last week, Smith expressed interest in making his college decision closer to the early signing period in December.

A spring jamboree Thursday in Florida gave a Tennessee assistant coach a chance to see a couple of the Vols’ targets in the 2020 class in action. Derrick Ansley, Tennessee’s first-year defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach, traveled to Kathleen High School in Lakeland, Fla., to attend a three-team jamboree Thursday night, 247Sports’ Luke Stampini reported.

Four-star athlete Arian Smith of Mulberry, who’s rated a top-100 prospect nationally by 247Sports, was among the prospects Ansley evaluated during the jamboree, along with Dennis, who visited the Vols last month to attend one of their spring scrimmages.

The 6-foot-1, 170-pound Smith has yet to visit Tennessee, but he has heard plenty from the Vols — led by Ansley, who’s serving as Smith’s primary recruiter — and he has discussed taking an official visit to Knoxville as early as this summer.

Smith, a two-sport standout who’s hoping to play football and run track in college, is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 73 overall prospect and No. 6 athlete in the 2020 class.

In the ol' good days, UT had multiple track/football kids and this kid would be a stone cold lock. Of course, the track program was a national championship threat, almost every year.

A hall of fame football coach once said, speed never had a bad day. If that’s true then Lakeland, Fla. wide receiver
Arian Smithis always happy. The 6-0, 175 pound wide out can fly, having been clocked in the sub 4.4’s at various places. As a sophomore in track, Smith long jumped 25-3.25, the best in the nation in 2018. When it comes to recruiting, the elite athlete has offers from Florida, Florida State, Tennessee, Michigan, and Nebraska to name a few. He spent the last couple of days on Rocky Top and the Vols have moved up the ranks.

“I enjoyed everything,” Smith said. “I am surprised. They have risen into my top 6. “I like how they run things around here. I like the city. There are more things to do then you think there would be.” Smith said the closeness of the city was appealing as well. “I like that everything is right there,” Smith said. “There’s so much within walking distance. You don’t have to go too far to do something. It’s convenient.”

Tennessee’s message for Smith as a student athlete was simple. His speed is a need both on the gridiron and in track. “Their message is that they need me,” Smith said. “I could come here play football, run track and win in both. “They love everything about my game. They think that I’m one of the best players in the country.” Smith said the strength of his game starts simply with his effort. “I don’t give up. I’m going to keep going. I will finish whatever I do,” Smith offered.

The sunshine state product is also impressed with the people of Tennessee starting with receiver coach Tee Martin who he’s grown close with. “Coach Martin, that’s my buddy. He’s my dog,” Smith said. “He’s going to make sure you have what you need to be successful and is going to make sure you do what you need to do to make sure you can be the best you can be.”

Smith is also impressed with head coach Jeremy Pruitt. “He’s chill,” said Smith. “But when it comes to game time he’s a whole different person. He will be a mentor, a father figure. He’s going to be there for you.”

The elite track star also met with track assistant head coach Travis Geopfert and was impressed with his message and how Tennessee’s two programs work together. “I talk to coach G. He told me that I could come here and be successful on the track as well as successful in football,” Smith said. “What stands out the most is how they run things and how they have it set up for dual sport players for their training for both sports.”
