April 5, 2005

NEW YORK - Former University of Tennessee wide receiver Cory Fleming, currently a wide receiver/linebacker for the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League, has been named U.S. Army Ironman of the Week for Week 10 of the 2005 AFL season.

Fleming (6-3, 215, Tennessee), who is in his ninth season, led the Orlando Predators (6-3) over the Los Angeles Avengers (5-4) in Sunday's 56-55 overtime victory. On offense, the 2004 U.S. Army Ironman of the Year had 11 receptions for 159 yards and four receiving touchdowns. Defensively, he tallied 2.5 total tackles, including a goal-line stop late in the game. This marks the fifth time that the former Volunteer has earned an AFL weekly honor.

At Tennessee, Fleming set a school record with 18 career touchdown receptions, including record-setting 11 in his senior season (1993), when he was a second team All-SEC and honorable mention All-American. Fleming caught his first career touchdown pass as a Volunteer in Tennessee's legendary 35-34 comeback win over Notre Dame in 1991. He played in four bowl games (Sugar, Fiesta, Hall of Fame and Citrus) during his career.

Fleming, who resides in LaVergne, Tenn. during the offseason, prepped at Stratford (TN) High School, where he played quarterback and was a three-sport star from 1986-89. He owns an insurance agency in Tennessee (Fleming Insurance) and also puts on several football camps for kids in the offseason.

This Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. ET on Sun Sports TV, Fleming and the Predators face their long-time rival, the Tampa Bay Storm (5-4) at St. Pete Times Forum.
