Just a case for a little optimism.
 • Florida 2001 - 18 point underdog - 2 weeks prior against Kentucky, we were down 21-0 at one point and had to rally to win 38-35. Shoot, if we could only squeak past Kentucky, what were we going to do at the swamp against #2 Florida? We're going to get killed right? Wrong, we give Spurrier only his second SEC loss in the swamp in 12 years, we win 34-32
 • Miami 2003 - big underdog (12 points maybe?) - in previous weeks we lost on the road to Auburn, were blown out at home by Georgia, had to go 5OTs to beat a weak Alabama team, and had a lackluster win at home again Duke. Dang, Miami is going to kill us, they have a, what, 47 game home winning streak(?). Wrong, we go into Havanna and win 10-6.
 • Georgia 2004 - big underdog again - in the previous weeks we get spanked at home by Auburn while Georgia POUNDS defending NC LSU. According to Trev Alberts, Georgia is the second coming, VOLS are going to get killed right? Wrong, we march into Athens and squash David Green, David Pollock, and the rest of the Georgia nation's hopes and dreams while we win 19-14.

I love it. Proves that you can never count us out.

Auburn is no doubt a better team then we are but if they overlook us and are more concerned about the national championship then it could be interesting.

I think they are aware of the potential trap of overlooking us. We may have been looking weak this last month, but we are still a real danger. Luckily, I think Auburn will end up being favored by at least 10 points.

Wow, nice post. I got chills thinking about those big wins. Nice to read something positive 'round these parts.

Both the offense and defense have shown moments of brilliance through the course of the year, but never putting a whole game together. If they can actually BOTH play well on Saturday, it'll be a very interesting game. Rick has GOT to stop throwing pick 6's though!

Yeah, and it wouldn't hurt if Auburn put a mediocre game together...

Wouldn't hurt if pretty much the entire AU team gets a stomach bug late in the week, too, and they have to stick in their cheerleaders. I have to admit, a few of them LOOK pretty scary. What's cheerleading come to these days?

Love UT, love our players

We won't win this game

It must suck to live with that kind of attitude. Bet you were pissed when you refused to watch us in the '98 Fiesta Bowl, against Florida in 2001, Miami last year, and Georgia this year -- knowing full well we were going to lose.

Good thing our players don't live with the same kind of "loser" mentality.

There's a fine line between having a negative attitude and being realistic. I think U-T was just being realistic. I don't think we will win, either, but who knows.

I think saying "We won't win" IS having a negative attitude. A lot of people have said that before a lot of games in which we've pulled the upset.

My point is this -- we ALWAYS have a chance, and I'd rather focus on what we need to do to keep this thing close going into the fourth quarter than just agreeing to go shop with my wife Saturday night.

I agree Doc - The SECCG matchup is no scarier than the Georgia matchup was earlier this year. After we got pounded the week before and GA had annihilated LSU, there wasn't much hope then either . . . but that's why they play the games.

Beating Auburn wouldn't even be the first time we've gone on the road and beaten the #3 team THIS YEAR.

Fulmer is always at his best when his back is to the wall. People wanted to run him off after the Peach Bowl, and now he's in the SECC game. They are a double digit underdog again, so they can pull it off.

kiddiedoc, I hate to say it but I agree that we won't win this game.

Am I going? yes. Am I pulling for the Vols? yes. Do I think we could pull the upset? yes.
But am I expecting us to win? no.

I don't think many of us are expecting a win. I do think we are all hopeful. Granted I didn't think we would win the 98NC game either. But I flew all the way out there because that's why we play the games. I knew we had a chance.

Well according to the experts its not looking so hot for UT right now but you never know what can happen on the field of battle. We had 4 starters hurt in the 1st qtr againtst GT and they almost pulled off a huge upset. Keep your heads up aslong as your guys come to play anything is possible. Now go out their and represent the SEC.

GooooOOOOO DAWGS!!!!!

No offense, but Tennessee is not GT. They won't need 4 Aubie players to get hurt to beat them. If the Vols line up, don't turn the ball over, and just play... they can beat the Eagle-Tigers straight up.

It isn't like we got to the SECCG by ACCIDENT either, guys! We deserve to be in this game and we deserve to win. Heck, to come this far with the youth and inexperience we have had makes me believe ANYTHING is possible.

Her Highness has spoken.

I hope the players don't share the attitude some of you have.

Anyone remember K-State last year against the Okies, supposedly one of the greatest college football teams ever?

Anyone remember the #3 VOLS in 2001 in the SECCG who lost to the, what #17 or so LSU Tigers?

Anyone remember K-State versus Texas A&M, or Miami versus UCLA in '98?

How about Texas versus Nebraksa in the 1995 Big 12 Championship?

ALL UPSETS!

Have a little faith people. Like Volstorm said, Fulmer is at his best with his back against the wall.
