Florida D Coordinator?

I think either one is a fine pick up. They both have a good track record and understand X's and O's.

It always comes down to recruiting - the Clemson guy obviously has to do a good job recruiting at Clem. And for Austin, coming in with NFL experience always helps.

I wouldn't try and read too much into this... both these guys can coach.

However, it is a downgrade from Strong.

The way they're recruiting they could plug in just about anyone and they'd look impressive. Not that hard to coach D with that kind of talent.

No I don't agree - at least right now... way too early to tell, but if you had to grade them right now:

Austin - 19 years experience NFL and College - can coach X's and O's and can recruit.

Wilcox - young, not experienced, weak conference - he is very intelligent and will do well at UT, but right now he isn't even in the same league as Austin.

Has Austin ever been a D coordinator??

Austin is a terrible coach. I'm glad that someone took him off the Cardinals' hands, and I'm even happier that it was the Florida Gators. Under the tutelage of this stellar coach, the Arizona Cardinals ranked 23rd in the NFL in pass defense, and that was with 2 Pro Bowlers in the secondary and a third one that was an alternate for the Pro Bowl.

Austin has never been a coordinator. At this point, I'll take Wilcox.

(check back at the end of next season)
