it's all for show though.

publicly, their is a display of support. privately, he knows the extension means nothing if he doesn't have better seasons

Ummmm no not until he shows some promise. It would be a dumb business move to offer CDD any extention until he shows promise at least have a .500 season or top10 recruiting class. If we offer him a 4yr extention after a 5-7 season what does that say about UT? Nothing good.

Exactly. This is just standard operating procedure so that the coach stays under contract 4-5 years out and can recruit.

The only thing that matters is the terms and conditions of the buy-out. Everything else has very little value.

If UF fired Muschamp today, he would be a head coach at another BCS aq conference school before the end of the year. When you have someone who's in demand you have to protect your interests.

He had a top 5 recruiting class this year, they were thrilled and gave him an extension.

Dooley has a 6 year deal in place which expires December 31, 2015. How far out do you want his extended? Let's have a winning season before we even begin to talk about this crap.

Well I don't think it is crap, but i would wait another years to give him another six year deal. It will cost us more in the long run because he will win a lot of games for Tennessee.

Haha you know nothing about football, sports, buissness... even life maybe.
First Dooley will even tell you he hasn't earned an extension...yet. if he wins the east this year I'm sure he gets a healthy deal. Secondly Dooley's name right now carries no weight with top teir programs. One of the reasons you lock a coach in is to keep them from bailing on you. This is the best Job any coach with a losing record can get in the country. FL is probably nervous Mushchump would leave for Texas if it came availible. And lastly no. Just no he has to prove he gets 1 more season after this year. Another 5 or 6 win season and he's out.

You don't give people security when they haven't earned it. You end up with a situation like Fulmer's, when complacency sets in and you know the rest. Earn it then reward. We have a whole society full of people that think they're entitled to something. Doesn't and shouldn't work that way.

Whatever. I know a couple of not so prominent former gators that have been embarrassed lately and have zero confidence in the program under him.

I have supported Dooley and continue to do so.... but ANY talk of an extension on his contract based on a .500 season is (as the nega-vols say) to buy into mediocrity

Age is factor in this as well. It's not like either Muschamp or Dooley would care to sit out 3 or 4 years if they were fired, so the likelihood of paying the full costs is reduced.

As Hillbillly points out, the risk is further reduced if you start with a coach who is in demand. We didn't; UF did.
