Hey guys.

For SEC play, I'm going to try my best to watch our opponents a week before we play them. For Mississippi State game on Thursday, I plan to watch them Saturday night against Arkansas.

Anyways, here's what I gathered:

- Mike Rosario, their lead backup guard, didn't play because of injury. I do not know his status for Saturday's game. He's averaging nine points a game. Could be a factor.

- They tried to get the ball to Patric Young early, and they went away from him to their bombs away offense. Young does a good job using his 250 pound frame to position himself close to the basket, and his post moves are solid. Hall will most likely play him. The issue though is they don't go to Young. He shoots over 60%, but because they focus so much on their guards, he doesn't get a lot of touches. He averages eight shots a game and shoots over 60%!!!

- I like to call Florida's offense "Bombs Away" because that exactly what they do. They will shoot it and shoot it some more from deep. They lead the country in three pointers made with eleven a game, and 40.5% from three.

- Erving Walker is the ultimate X factor. He was on against UAB, and went 8-12 for 23 points, hitting seven 3's. You have to guard him from 25 feet in or he will shoot.

- Florida is an excellent passing team. They are top 10 in assists. They are really good at swinging the ball around and do an excellent job on kicking the ball out on driving.

- Florida runs a motion offense with more pick and rolls and isolations. They set screens everywhere on the court, and will run every kind of pick and roll play you can imagine. Tennessee has to communicate on defense and has to be able to hedge quickly or Florida will pick you apart.

- They are weak rebounding. Their guards do not box out. Tennessee can crash the glass and control the game on the boards. After Young, they are all weak rebounding wise.

- Florida's guards do not do a good job recovering after a pick. They seem to chase, and do not fight screens very well. This would be perfect for Golden to attack the rim. They don't rotate very well either.

- You have to guard Florida forty minutes. They can score in bunches. UAB knocked the game down to nine at one point, and then it was 15 in two possessions. You cannon let up your defensive intensity.

- Florida's three guards will kill you. They all can go for 25 on any certain night. Bradley Beal is an Eric Gordon clone. Kenny Boyton is a legit scorer on offense, and Erving Walker can be a microwave on offense. You cannot hide bad defense on any of their guards. All UT guards will have to defend.

My overall opinion about Florida: Great offensive team that struggles with good guard play, and doesn't rebound the ball very well. They are so dependent on the three pointer, that if you are able to minimize the court on picks and screens, and get a hand in their face, you can shut their offense down. UAB couldn't do for a full game, but they did it in spurts, and really took Florida out of rhythm. Attack the basket and defend the 3, and you have a great chance to upset Florida.

Kenny Boynton is smart on offense? You serious, Clark?

I will say this though in Kenny's defense. He's much more patient on offense and taking better shots. He's improved his FG percentage by 12% this year.

I really think Cam can guard Beal and lock him down if he brings his A game, but I think Kenny B. Is gonna be a nightmare.

It's going to be very hard because our guard defense has been inconsistent.

UT matches up with Florida pretty well. They won't help enough guarding us off the screen so attacking the basket and dishing to Maymon Hall when their Post tries to recover in the paint should be there all night long. Watching Florida a few times this year, I think it really comes down to how well we defend the 3. If we give them open looks, they will bury us. They specialize in shooting 3's and I really don't see CCM slipping on this. Kenny Hall is the big ? for me. If he can play with Young and keep him from getting early looks, box out etc...we should win this game IMO. Florida's backcourt is extremely quick so keeping the game Big 10"ish" will for sure be the best attack. IMO, Florida always looks like they are learning on defense no matter when you watch 'em play. It's almost like they are in practice mode or something. We should be able to handle them offensively.

Anyone watch the Rutgers game?
If so. Insight.

Anytime you go up against a team that shoots so many three pointers you have a chance to upset them when they have a cold night shooting so we got that going for us.

I do think that their rebounding numbers being kind of low is just a product of their style of offense and all the long rebounds that come up from missed triples.

They are a good team and a well coached team and we are going to have our hands full and I really wanna see that Young Vs Maymon matchup in the post

I watched the Florida-Rutgers game and it was an awesome game. Florida is in love with the 3-point shot for sure, and it will be their undoing in some games, as it was in the Rutgers game for sure. They were so much bigger than Rutgers on the interior, and much like Tennessee, refused to work it in the paint to Patric Young, who could've had his way at any time. Rutgers beat them at their own game and had two freshmen guards (Myles Mack & Eli Carter) who went bananas, hitting every shot imaginable.

Rutgers will be very good next year BTW. Lots of youth and talent. Tennessee could have likely had Eli Carter had they pursued harder. He was of the 4-5 PG's CCM evaluated along with Washpun when he first took the job.

Had same scout grade on espn as Wes. Not highly recruited.
50/50 we picked wrong, I guess. Who knows.

Correct. He flew under the radar. I think he may have had grade issues too (not sure though) which could have turned us off, though as I remember, so did Wes. Players like him emerge all the time. Tu Holloway comes to mind. It's just the nature of the recruiting beast. Sometimes, it works in your favor...Chris Lofton.

This will not be one of the old UT-UF games in the 80's. Martin is going to try and control the pace, work the ball inside, and make sure his team gets back.

The operative word. If Tennessee doesn't play better perimeter defense, there will be at least one team in the 80's I'm afraid. Florida averages 85 ppg, and Tennessee averages 77 ppg, so its not a stretch to think this game could be played in the 80's.

One thing we have struggled to do against the better teams we have played has been controlling tempo. We seem to let other teams dictate tempo (Memphis & Oakland for example) and I think that's a sign of our lack of offensive identity and leadership on the floor. A game in the 60's seems to benefit us as it limits Florida's offensive possessions, but I have a feeling we will again be duped into a 3-point contest with Florida. If both teams are hitting, look for a lot of points to ne scored.

I agree. I would like to see Trae walk the ball up the court after the vast majority of Memphis fast break baskets.
