in the wake of the game last night, and hearing the FSU fans that are calling in on the radio shows here, it's interesting that they all want the OC fired as well....or at least to step down like a man, "like Randy Sanders did at Tennessee". Hm...this got me thinking...while FSU has had more success than we did this year, you'd never know it listening to the fans....anyway....both struggled mightily on offense this year. Both relied on a better than averae and fast defense....both have had miscues in special teams, though UT's are probably more notable. both lost games they never should have...and both won games they shouldn't have....Obvioulsy, we would've liked to enjoy the same "bad" year FSU did, but records aside, the attitude of the fans at FSU and TN are fairly parallel when it comes to bad coaching and what should be done about it....

yet, in a year where they did win the conference, play in a BCS game, go to 3 OT's with the #3 team in the land, and today, the coach is an idiot and should be fired.

i don't thin anyone is going to get together and throw a pity party for either FSU or TN, but i find it inetersting that we are not the only fanbase that can be this irrational.

and if you think CPF's loyalty has come in to question as being a fault, you ought to hear what they're sayin about CBB's loyalty to his son....wheeeeew man.

oh well....i guess we're not alone....

Kind of funny. The only Bowden Boy that could coach was run off for screwing the wrong woman.

Even more ironic is that Fla state is a young team like UT was last year. But they, like UT are losing their national cred, and that is hard for people to handle. It is like a famous person fading away, or a successful athlete retiring.

we live in a "what have you done for me lately world" i myself hold my vols to high standards and
believe this should never happen. with that said i would still be dissappointed if we lost to anyone of the teams ranked in the top 10 tomorrow even after going 5-6!

I think it will be even more interesting next year....doubtful any changes, serious changes anyway, will be made in Tal. Plus, like us, they have had good recruiting classes the past couple of years, don't know what this year's crop is looking like, but i haven't heard any glowing remarks about them this year....

but what if they really do suck next year? what if they like us, have a .500 or worse season? i bet the fans down there react with more venom than we did....

Well it is much harder to explain that kind of collapse in Fla. The hs football is king, and the athletes grow on trees.

Unfortunaley live around some Seminole fans. They have not liked Bowden's boy Jeff running the offense. I hear the same comments as we make regarding offense with no imagination. The only thing that would have gotten him off was a win. Thought they played well against a better team and still stuck with them until the bitter kicking end.

I agree...but you look where a lot of these recruits are going now....more and more Florida atheletes are leaving the state...not on the scale that it should seriously hurt any of the three, but look at NC State's roster....a bunch of Florida players...maybe most are 2nd tier, but still....same with LSU, TN, and several others....

I think FSU this year had the same type of year we had in 04, minus the bowl win, but + the conf. championship. it'll be interesting to see what happens next year....

If Bobby Bowden goes 5-6 they might just blow Tallahassee up.

I live in Florida and of course know many FSU fans. The sentiment seems to be almost universal that Jeff Bowden as OC is a huge mistake and that he has no creativity. A certain percentage of the fans have pretty obviously adopted that position just because they hear others say it and it makes them feel good, like there is a reason that FSU has not enjoyed the kind of success it did 6 or 7 years ago. But, amongst seemingly knowledgeable fans there is a growing cry for JB's head. I remember in one of the overtimes last night FSU ran an up-the-gut fullback play that went nowhere and I swear I heard the neighbors screaming that JB was blowing it yet again.

Bobby Bowden is an absolutely amazing recruiter. Personally, I doubt he has the stamina for the late nights watching game film and hanging out in the wieght room. I think he leaves all of the day-to-day stuff to Mickey Andrews (defensive coordinator and obviously pretty bright) and then to his kid as OC. The offense has struggled over the last few years in large part I think because of the QB problems they have had. Chris Rix was an arrogant mental case who caused a ton of internal problems on that team. Then of course they had Wyatt Sexton who showed up with Lyme Disease (yeah, right) as he was about to take the reins.

FSU has and will cotninue to get great talent with Bobby Bowden as head coach. Is he past his prime on the field? Probably, but I am not sure it is fair or accurate to blame him for the last few years' worth of less-than-perfection and for now most seem conent to lay that at the feet of his kid.

I completely agree. I live in Tallahassee and listen to a lot of sports talk radio here...it's been nasty this year. Signs in the streets calling for jeff bowden to be fired...signs attempting to be taken into games (they won't let you bring them in) all in all I think they are right. Bobby is mostly a figurehead and there for recruiting...he walks into recruits home as this elder statesman with a huge moral rep and kids parents are smitten. FSU had huge talent this year...look at what happened to xavier lee, he was one of the most highly recruited QB's in the nation and yet he sat on his butt and didn't study the playbook and drew weatherford took his job. I think that FSU has many of the same problems that UT had this year but I think that UT will get things cleaned up first.

The biggest mistake FSU made was not cutting a deal to keep Richt. He was the heir apparent and was willing to wait till Bowden was finished but they wouldn't guarantee him the job, so he left.

There was an article last week talking about how Richt almost backed out of the UGA job at the last minute until his brother told him he was a complete idiot if he didn't take it.

I listen to a florida radio station during the day, and they seem to think meyer is building a dynasty, and coker is a terrible coach. that seems to be reason all the recruits are going to florida, 7 of the top 15 prospects in the nation supposedly. i agree about richt, the downhill of that program started when he left.

Meyer is getting many of the top rated in state talent, especially skilled positions. Also, he has already publicly commented on Leak's need to become a better runner, tougher more physical. Leak has been told to work with the running backs coach to get better this off season. Leak, as most know, does not like to be hit and I think Meyer would bench him in a heart beat if he had an alternative. Tebow won't be ready soon enough to help them next year.

If I were Leak, I'd just declare for the draft. He's not going to do anything better next year other than improve his chances of getting killed.

I'm still not sure of Meyer building a dynasty, but Coker is a terrible coach. All he did was inherit an amazing assembly of talented, but undisclipined players. I have to give Fulmer credit for going down there in 2003 and beating them by letting them make their own mistakes (>100 yards of UM penalties, etc).

Idiot Leak.

He could be having his senior year under Cut but n0000000000000000000000 his concrete domed head brother didn't get handed a QB job he couldn't in a million zillion years ever earn. :gun:

Phatso learned a bunch from that, didn't he? :focus:

Here's another comp between Sanders & Bowden, jr. Both had / got excellent talent but couldn't develop them beyond what the player was first day of practice.
