Saw that yesterday afternoon! Interesting! I live in Alabama my neighbor is Jimbo Fishers FIL, talked to him a few weeks ago and asked him if FSU is coming to the SEC. He said that he hopes so, but couldn't say any more. So TIFWIW!

Wow.... now that's interesting.... I was under the false idea that the SEC had the so called gentlemen's agreement, guess I was wrong. FSU would be great for the SEC, but I think it would hurt the gators...

There have been rumors on Texas forums that the Longhorns could be considering moving to the ACC. So, FSU has a lot of possibilities to ponder.

I don't see FSU ever getting the required 9 votes. Florida, Bama, the barn, and UGA would all vote against them.

I've read this too. The ACC would apparently let the Longhorns keep their precious network. And after the revenue infighting inevitably starts in a few years, the ACC will become the third conference Texas sends to the graveyard.

FSU, Clemson, and/or VT would be smart to move now if the SEC is indeed interested in them.

They seem to do this every 10 years or so (exaggerated time line, but it's happened a multiple times) though in hopes to get in to the SEC, and the conference turned them down each time

If the ACC is going to let teams have their own TV deals, they could likely get Notre Dame also.

I can imagine Florida State wanting their own TV network also.

This sucks for UT and the rest of the SEC. Splitting the TV market pie with FSU when they don't broaden the SEC's footprint at all.

I don't see how bringing in FSU makes money for the SEC or the individual schools.

I understand Fla, but why would the barn, Bama and Ga be againist it, is it recruiting?

at the simplest, a gentleman's agreement to keep out Ga tech, clemson, etc (not sure why Auburn's here, i thought UK was the 4th member of this little group)

they agree that - were such a vote on membership for any of the four to come up - they would vote together against it because no one wants their state's other school to be part of the conference

False.

What does Florida have to lose in voting for FSU to join? We play them every year, anyway.

I thought UF would not want FSU to add the SEC to its recruiting pitch. Maybe your view is right.

I suppose FSU might get a momentary bit of play out of that, but really the main kids both UF and FSU recruit are I don't think basing their decision on FSU's conference affiliation. Like I say,I suppose with some kids it could make a difference, but they might go to UGA, 'bama, or LSU anyway.

If it could be demonstrated that a renegotiated TV deal would still improve UF's, UGA's, or Carolina's financial position by adding their in-state brethren, I think they'd be inclined to ok it.

Every domino that has fallen in this realignment game so far has been driven first by the almighty dollar.

Another factor in all of this may be state legislatures. It's the reason there are two ACC schools in Virginia, and why there will be two Oklahoma schools in whatever conference the Sooners move to. Even Baylor got shoehorned into the Big XII because of political pressure.

Some people ask why, because it doesn't make sense.

Well, if the Pac 12 gets Oklahoma, Texas, and Oklahoma State, that right there gives them three top 25 teams right now, AND two top 10 programs historically.

Sure the SEC is adding TAMU. And let's say they add Mizzou and Va. Tech (for argument's sake).

Those are decent programs. Only one of them has a singular national title. TAMU and Mizzou haven't won a conference title in forever. Va. Tech is a good program, but would be a 8-4 program in the SEC.

Florida State adds another power. Jumbo Fisher has that program on the right track. Since about the early 80's, Florida State has been a collegiate power. Fisher has a top five team right now. So you add prestige. It makes some sense monetary wise, even though you could West Virginia and add a bigger market. But not football wise. WVU would be another 8-4 program.

Adding Florida State would add a powerhouse and make the SEC way more competitive. Which means more powerhouses=Better conferences=More Money.

Right now if UF loses to FSU it has no weight on the SECCG for UF. If FSU joins that changes.

I have no idea if UF cares about that but it makes the game worth more.
