The big issue for South Carolina is of course their QB status. They are down to some thin depth there - they just had a bye week, but their 3rd-stringer (lately 2nd stringer, and now possibly starter) Dakereon Joyner spent the bye week recuperating from a quad bruise suffered during the Missouri loss where their 2nd stringer (lately starter) Hilinski was dealing with an arm/elbow injury. So Joyner hadn't had a lot of practice reps heading into UGA, but he's likely to be taking starter's snaps this week.
But Joyner is nowhere near the passer that Hilinski is - he is a much better runner, but bum legs play havoc with that.
The other issue will be the Gamecock secondary. Against UGA they (they being Israel Mukuamu) were surprisingly dominant and resilient against a normally strong UGA passing attack. UF's Trask is every bit as good a passer as Fromm, but UGA's OL was supposed to be All-Universe. Even after losing to USC, they still lead the SEC in QB sacks allowed, TFL allowed, and rushing offense. South Carolina shut down contained the Bulldog rushing attack, which helped their DL apply pressure to Fromm, and their secondary stay close to their receivers.
Florida's own OL is not in UGA OL's league. They rank toward the bottom of the SEC stats in the above categories, and their rush offense is not that strong. So the question is, can the Gamecock DL repeat on their home field what they accomplished in Athens against a poorer version of the SEC OL?
Also, Florida's season may be a bit dubious: they out-scored Miami, UT-Martin, Towson, and Tennessee 141 to 23, but is that really impressive? They are 2-1 versus the other 3 opponents, but out-scored them 81-76. I was surprised with how much Auburn's offense struggled against Florida when they played. I thought it would be more of the barn-burner the Gators had against LSU.
Florida leads the SEC in QB sacks and TFL, but 19 of those 26 sacks and 34 of those 51 TFL came against Miami, UT-Martin, and Towson. That means the Gators are averaging 1.75 sacks and 4.25 TFL versus SEC opponents thus far this season. Take Tennessee out of the equation, and it's 1.0 sacks and 3.0 TFL per SEC opponent. And Florida may be missing two of their top defensive players in Greenard and Zuniga for Saturday, although they will both be game-time decisions....
