Today I finally....after searching for over a decade...found my Holy Grail of autograph collecting. Signed on May 10, 1965. It's the only known photo of Howard McNear signed as Floyd known to exist. It's as rare as it gets and a true piece of television history. As a huge fan of The Andy Griffith Show, nothing outshines this.5B3F39BB-7344-47D5-AE8B-0ACB2D8EF1FF.jpeg

About a year or two ago a signed McNear photo surfaced on eBay. In my opinion it was a forgery.

Do you know why there aren't Floyd-signed pieces? Did McNear have some reluctance or an aversion to the trap of it? Or is it just happenstance that none survived? I just ask because in such an iconic show, he's one of the most iconic characters and one would think he would have identified his autographs with that regularly. It's clearly the biggest role he ever had.

Was it autographed for Bonnie Lou of Bonnie Lou and Buster fame?

This is a great question that I’m not certain of the answer. He didn’t appear in the show until episode 13 and, as I’m sure you know, had a stroke which caused him to miss a year and a half of filming. I’d say he was not a nightlife partying Los Angeles type of guy....and combined with the stroke...he probably didn’t sign very much. Being that he died 50 years ago I would theorize that what few items he signed simply haven’t surfaced or didn’t make it. As I said above there is one other photo on the net that has surfaced....but I strongly feel it’s a forgery and thus I never pursued it. I literally cannot believe I found this photo.

I have an autograph from the head of the Lollipop Gym. It's not all that rare, but it's sentimental.

You never said if you got the Garner jersey or anything more about the Tiger Woods worn red polo

@DOCTORLOOMIS, rumor has it that Steve McQueen's Bullit Mustang will hit the auction block in 2020. Do you have any interest in that sort of memorabilia?

I’m not sure friend.....

That brings up another question I was curious about. Autographed items are often signed to a specific person so one would think the provenance would easily follow along as the pieces change hands. But is that usually the case? Or does it typically get lost along the way?
