I had on a bulky sweatshirt and TSA screener told me he had to pat down search me because of it. I didn't mind a bit. It was thorough, but not obtrusive. In other respects, the security was tighter and generally an increased presence at every point of the trip.

If you ask me, we need to go to the full body scanners. Just keep the images with identifying info for, say, 30 days, and then keep them but de-link them to individual passengers after that to address privacy concerns.

But they are expensive and even if we bought them all, it would take awhile. So in the meantime go with more pat downs. Some with reasons, some random.

A "sweatshirt-type top"? Fix that. That's something a girl would say. Guys don't wear "tops".

They patted everybody down that went into the Georgia Dome. I felt kinda sorry for the ladies doing it. One looked at me and said "This is so awkward." lol

I get patted down every time I wear a sweatshirt/bulky pullover. I do it now just for fun...some of those guys have a special touch :p

I was actually in Tulsa recently wearing my UT pullover. After getting hassled for it being the "wrong UT", I was asked to go into one of the full-body scanners. Tulsa is one of less than 10 airports that use them for secondary screenings, I think.

TT, are you saying you dress suspiciously, because the pat-down is the closest thing you are going to get to a hug?

How about we start using profiling, bomb sniffing dogs, and psychological deterrents?

Yes.

Israel uses profiling extensively and without apology. Turns out they have one of the safest airlines in the world despite being under a constant state of threat.

I'm sorry if people get offended because of how they look. It's the price you have to pay to travel by air.

Ha! I immediately caught the "top" lingo and edited it out because it did sound, well, gay.

An no droski, I had the vaca planned well before that became a possibility. In fact, was originally going to go second week of December and had to postpone because of work issues.

I was in Tustin/Irvine area. Driving tour of UC-Irvine, by the way.

Mr. Two Bits bragged about already owning those tickets about a month and a half ago. Just for that, it would almost be nice if he were still around. Not really, though.

Apparently, one out of every hundred thousand people are offended by the extra searching. Makes sense the ACLU is protecting that "one person".

With hundreds of thousands of people flying every day, it is inevitable that there will be slips and over-doing its here and there.

Don't see why they can't have women search women if that's the issue.

There is a certain value to doing the searches in inconsistent fashion, by the way. Whether that means randomly choosing people to search and then, on top of that, searching to different degrees, keeps the terrorists from formulating a plan to circumvent it.

Problem we have now is that every change we make is now well known and usually consistent. See e.g. x-raying shoes. Once we moved to that because of Ried the shoe bomber, they switch to the lining of underwear.

Point is, if its the same way every time, terrorists just plot a way around it.

Ever notice common sense isn't really all that common?

haha...I think it was George Carlin that said "it's scary to think about how dumb the average person is....and then realize half of people are dumber than him."
