I just want to vent.

I've had a USAA credit card for over 30 years and they notified me that they were changing over from Master Card to Visa a few months ago and that my credit card number would change. No big deal I thought, I only have a few things that were automatically charged to it and I changed them.

Well during those 30+ years I've changed my bank account a couple of times. Last month when I went to pay my bill off I did what I always did and select the default bank account. Well during this change over they defaulted my bank account over to one that hasn't existed in over 10 years. I try and pay my bill off with a now defunct checking account and with my next statement now I'm charged interest. Granted it was a small amount, but I did nothing wrong.

When I pay my bill it shows the last 4 digits of my checking account number, who in the hell knows what those are?

Their stance is I didn't pay my bill and they aren't even going to talk to me about it. I'm so pissed I can't think straight.

I would ask to talk to a manager. I've never heard of such terrible customer service. Most will wave a late fee once every 6 months to a year as long as your history shows regular on time payments.

I rarely even use my CC. I hope you talk to the right person and get a break.

I love USAA and do business with them through banking, credit cards, mortgage, and insurance. I have never had a single issue with them and this seems to be an isolated incident. Elevate it

You made a good faith effort and through a change on their end you were not able to make a payment. I would surely think with a transition to a new card they would cut customers some slack. Call them back after you're not angry. Anger doesn't get much done with customer service people.

This. USAA typically goes out of the way to make sure the customer is happy. I've never had an issue with USAA. Navy Fed is also pretty good. I use both

I rarely use a credit card. But I do have automatic bank drafts for a couple of loans with that same bank. I have three times gotten late payment notices for "automatic drafts" not being automatic and the money was on deposit... S.C.R.E.A.M.!!!
duh1

Covenant Health has, for my last several trips to my primary care doc, sent me a co-pay bill in the mail. Even though I have always only ever used the credit card there to have that on my card bill as well as the payment receipt in my pocket. ..S.C.R.E.A.M.!! duh2

It's true, you won't get good help unless you let your anger cool before talking to them. I've always gotten satisfaction.

I learned my bank account number a long time ago. I kind of had to so I could make after hours deposits through their night drop. I have to write the number on the deposit envelope. Random comment: I once lost a deposit apparently to some guy who also uses the same bank and has the same name as mine(what are the chances?!). This mistake was quickly fixed though.

Just so we're clear, was this USAA that was giving you trouble or another company for which you were trying to pay the bill for?

For sure call back and ask to speak to a supervisor. I worked for one of these credit card companies during college, base agents can't do anything for you. If i know im dealing with a call center i dont even speak to the first person who answers, I automatically request a supervisor.

Bank accounts, drivers license, insurance policies, etc I all have memorized. Not by design, I just tend to retain numbers that I've written down a few times.

****, I barely remember my phone number

If my # wasn't on my phone is never remember it. Bank account, SS, wife and kids SS, I got all those memorized, but can not keep my phone number in my head.

Well, they're kinda right aren't they?

You're right they are. Its not about the money it's about the principle.

For month after month and year after year I selected the default payment account to pay my bill in full and I did this past month as well. What changed was my default payment account changed to a checking account that didn't exist anymore and had been changed to a new account years earlier.

I don't appreciate shady practices that penalize me for doing the same thing I have done for years because I didn't memorize the last 4 digits of my checking account number. None of this happened until they changed from a Mastercard to a Visa card.

Seriously take the advice given. Calm down and call USAA back

This isn't shady. You're talking to somebody in a cubicle who's just checking a box and going by the book. You need to call back and talk to somebody up the food chain that can actually make a decision.

This isn't shady, take a pill......relax.......then call and elevate without being a prick on the phone. I can assure you that if the whole story is accurate and that it is their fault, they will definitely handle.
