A former Fresno County employee suspected of fraudulently issuing food stamps to Fresno State football players apparently used the name of an inmate serving life in prison to obtain benefits, according to a detective's affidavit.

Michael Martin, 51, was arrested last month by the Fresno County District Attorney's Office after the county's Department of Social Services requested an investigation.

Martin, who was released from jail because of overcrowding, no longer is employed as a county eligibility worker.
