It is really sad when Tennessee cant sign the best in-state college prospects. That is what a bad season can do to a team in their recruiting efforts.

However, one lackluster signing class is not the end of the world. Now if you have two back to back bad recruiting years then there is a problem.

I believe that the Vols will be better on offense because I do believe that Cutcliff can actually coach and develop talent. It will interesting to see whether or not this is true. You have to admit that Cut had some pretty good qb's to work with in the past. And he had great talent to work with in his previous stint with the Vols.

Anyway, good luck Vols.

Any way it falls I just hope the guys' we end with really want to play for UT and not a bunch of "I" and "me" players!!!!!

It's been said before, but the young man dreamed of going to FSU. You simply can't fault the kid for choosing to follow his dream...
Or UT for not turning him..

Let's try and focus and the guys we are getting instead of the one's we are missing out on. This is not all bad. Either we start winning with what we've got or Mike Hamilton will give CPF a one-way ticket to the unemployment office. I'll be happy either way.

yeah, i posted yesterday, people keep saying UT "lost" this kid. They never had him in the first place, so how could you consider this a loss? he went to where he said he was? where he always wanted to go....He probably needed the visit to UT to validate his decision. Just to make sure he was doing the right thing, for him. so be it. I don't think, and please correct me if i'm wrong, that any of the kids that we've been in the running for that didnt' come to UT were already verbally comitted etc....so we haven't "lost" anyone.

NOw, if Groggans goes elsewhere, that would be a loss....hope he statys true and comes to UTK.

We'll be fine folks. still a top 20 class, and that is to go on top of the class we had last year....we got talent there. we just need to coach 'em up and get back to UT Football as we all know it.

I firmly believe we will be okay.

You want to start worrying when your recruiting class drops down into the 30s or so or lower. We have great athletes already here and this class has some really good people in it, so we WILL BE OKAY.

I would agree with that if we did not have two division rivals who are smacking us silly in recruiting this year when that is supposed to be our head coach's forte'.

One down year won't hurt us. However Fulmer needs a Top 10 class next year or we will start to slide. Considering the season we had, I think he did good.

According to the experts Warren is the top player, but they also leave out he's a #$%^. Lindsay is a better player than Warren, Sykes is a better player than Warren and he's just a Jr.

Warren will fit right in at FSU

That may be true but it still galls me that so many people were saying that CPF would compensate for the bad season with a great recruiting class.

I got news for you people even if UT had went 12-1 this class would still have been about where it is. You don't get Top 10 signing linemen and defensive players.

It is almost impossible to argue the point with you 67 because the Top 10 teams all have a balance of skill positions, defense, and OL. It's not like the schools who are getting 5 star offensive weapons are getting unranked scrubs for defense. The rich get richer. That's how it works.

Also, I think UT has tried very hard to get some of those top skill position guys. So it's not like we wouldn't have taken Hawthorne, Mustain, etc.

i disagree vol67. if we would have went 12-1 some high schoolers would have shown alot more interest. we would have probably got quite a few better players to. when you win sec championships that happens. when you finish with a 5-6 record and haven't won anything important in 8+ years well that recruits speak for themselves. take a look a georgia and look at there recruiting years thats what happens when you win, the same with lsu.

It just seems to me, Tennessee is either late or doesn't recruit some of the best in-state prospects until its too late.I wonder at what point Tennessee seriously recruited him.

I am still more upset over losing Patrick Turner than I am over Warren. He is best suited to play DE in UT's system anyway, and he would never consent to that. The prospect UT will really regret losing is the Whitehead kid. 125 tackles from the defensive end position. Who cares about losing a TE. We don't use them enough anyway, and nationally they are a dime a dozen period.

Yeah your right. I mean we have never had a very good TE that made a difference on our team. LOL
I bet people from E town and Dallas Cowboy fans would disagree.

hey beef have we used one before or after witten the answer is no. in fulmers lame offense he would rather them block than catch passes.

I don't don't think we have had one that had the hands and speed. I like using TE, but I would rather get the ball in the hands of a speedy WR. Use the TE to keep the D honest, but first look IMO should be to the speedsters.

Warren committed to FSU before this season even started.

TE are used to create mismatches against LB's. It is hard to know if we have had one or not. At no point did I blast Witten in my post, but Warren is no JW, and is much better suited to be DE. SD hit the nail on the head.

yep lex i agree. in 01 the last time we had a descent offense, witten even made casey look like a superstar. to be honest with you it was the last time our offense was fun to watch.

Never said you did. I was pointing out that we have used TE when we had good ones and #1 was my example is all. And like I said using the TE is a very good way to keep the D honest. One way is to get mismatches. I have no doubt that if get another TE with good hands and speed they will be used. But I do prefer to get the ball in the hands of the speedsters first.
