Never said you did. I was pointing out that we have used TE when we had good ones and #1 was my example is all. And like I said using the TE is a very good way to keep the D honest. One way is to get mismatches. I have no doubt that if get another TE with good hands and speed they will be used. But I do prefer to get the ball in the hands of the speedsters first.

It's hard to get the ball in your hands if you can't catch. Our speedy wide receivers were a joke this past year. I don't understand why there weren't a few more passes thrown at Chris Brown or maybe the Cottam brothers. Jason Witten stepped up and made plays when our WRs had problems back in '02. The situation this year seemed pretty similar, so I don't see why the TEs weren't used more this time. Hopefully, if our WRs play as poorly next year, Cutcliffe will give some big TEs a chance to catch passes.

i cannot believe how much time we spend talking about recruiting.

oh so now Florida has the "best" class ever huh? well just a few years ago we held that honor.

i hate signing day and i cant wait to see it in my rearview. i know there isnt much to talk about but this is getting old, quick.

It is really sad when Tennessee cant sign the best in-state college prospects. That is what a bad season can do to a team in their recruiting efforts.

However, one lackluster signing class is not the end of the world. Now if you have two back to back bad recruiting years then there is a problem.

I believe that the Vols will be better on offense because I do believe that Cutcliff can actually coach and develop talent. It will interesting to see whether or not this is true. You have to admit that Cut had some pretty good qb's to work with in the past. And he had great talent to work with in his previous stint with the Vols.

Anyway, good luck Vols.

We lost P. Turner, B. Turner, and Oher last year after winning the East and blowing A&M out in the Cotton bowl. This years record is only a small part of the problem.

i cannot beleive i am getting in on this but here goes.

our problems is that kids dont wanna play for coaches like Fulmer anymore. same offense for 100 years. he isnt a friend to them. they are just another player. i doubt he spends much INDIVIDUAL time with these players at all. this is not a bashing of Fulmer though. i just think that his ways are in the past and if he doesnt evolve like Pete Carroll has or Urban Meyer than this will continue to happen.

the needs to get hip in other words. hell, even Joe Pa has gotten hip, and he is 123 years old.

good point checkerboard. i agree and look at what joe pa has accomplished, and look at his recruiting class this year. hopefully fulmer can have the same sort of success, but he is no joe pa.

Actually, Fulmer's success as a recruiter is that kids do want to play for him. His recruiting success is not because he blows these kids out of the water with his vast football knowledge and expertise. He is a father figure and he makes the UTK program feel like a family. So, your post is completely off base and lacks any facts or evidence to support your claim.

Evidently not many of the 5 Star players "want to play for him" in 2006 & beyond. Until UT advances their offense, this is what you will get!

It is that plain & simple. Fulmer has allowed UT's program to slip so far this is the result.

OBVIOUSLY, the hiring of Cutt (an old Orange Book buddy of Phil's) has not generated much excitement or interest w recruits.

Seriously, you need to change the record because that ones broke!

I thought I mentioned this to you specifically the other day...if Fulmer minded his program as well as he begged for raises, UT would not be in this situation.

Well at least something like that...in any case my "record" is a direct response of what UT Football has become.

Well, we just differ in the way we view things. I would rather hope for the best and be disappointed than hope for the worst and feel vindicated for being right.

And yes, I am one of those Vol fans who sees an undefeated season every year before it starts. It allows me to pull for them that much harder. In my naive mind I believe I help the players if I truly believe in their talent.

I also think UT should win it all...well at least be competitive in the SEC. Unfortunately, we've all seen a definite slippage in those goals over the last several years & hell UT's barely been a contentor in the SECE.

Beyond that has become unrealistic pipe dreaming.

Last year was far and away our best shot at making a serious NC Title run. We played SEVERAL Rookie SEC Head Coaches, SOS had absolutely no talent & they played in NEYLAND, ND with YET another Rookie Coach & Staff with very questionable talent, a UGA Squad that had been raided by graduation & the NFL, a uf squad that appeared to be loaded with the wrong kind of players, an Alabama Team that's certainly still hurting from probation, a very undermanned & season worn Vanderbilt unit that again played before 106,000 local fans at NEYLAND. All this plus a dream for favorable schedule, tv wise, location wise, exposure wise & timing wise.

Fortunately, we hit what I thought would be our worst match up, LSU the early part of our schedule. Now bear in mind, LSU had one of those SEC Rookie Coaches that I feel was totally clueless about SEC Football, a rookie qb, some other inexperienced key positions & the entire region had just experienced the worst & most devestating hurricane known to mankind. Some feel that win was a "signature" win. Again I refer to my "timing" position.

In any case, Coach Phil Fulmer failed the entire Vol Nation, his hand selected Staff, the SEC, the Proud Tradition of UT Football and most important the highly recruited & talented players he committed to. All because he was too hardheaded to change some obvious staff short comings. At least I hope that was the reason rather than him being unsavvy enough to adapt to the changes the SEC has experienced.

If his "new / old" staff doesn't prove itself, in NO unquestioned terms, it ain't going to get any better.

The sad part is you're letting last season control your view for this one. It's a clean slate. Will changes be made in philosophy? I bet they will. But to constantly belittle this team, players and coaches is just plain old. There are only 2 or 3 people on here who seem to be as negative about our chances as you are and unfortunately they are also very vocal. You're welcome to your views but just remember that most would rather be optimistic about Vol football and let things fall where they may. I donate my time and money to follow this team for a reason, I believe they will get it done.

We'll put bigger shocks on it and pull it with a John Deere for when you all want to jump back on.

I BEG your pardon. I NEVER NEVER belittle the team or the players!

I feel I must reinterate my stance: I FAULT CPF'S STAFF FOR FAILING THE VOLNATION, PLAYERS & UT FOOTBALL TRADITION.

As far as all those others that are negative, I can't speak for all. But I DO w/o question hold Phil Fulmer accountable for allowing UT to slip, fall, crash, whatever to rock bottom status.

In case some of the rainbow dreamers out there feel that's a bit harsh, you now are seeing the results of little or total lack of leadership.

Some may want to jump on w your John Deere tractor, give me a Cat!

Any questions...

i agree realvol, the blame is not on the kids it is on fulmer and fulmer alone. he just isn't a great coach.

Just one. Have you been hoping for a poor recruiting class so you can continue all of this? Kind of seems that way.

I view CPF as part of the football team. When you talk about execution and discipline, are those not associated w/ the players?

Were any of you calling for CFP's head in 98? Was he a terrible coach then or did you cheer when his peers handed him the Coach of the Year?

It's amazing how a couple off years bring out the "best" in some fans...

acouple of of years, we haven't been to a BCS or won sec championship in 8+ years. that is alittle more than a couple. plus our team on the offensive side of the ball has slipped for 5 years now while fulmer did nothing. i thought fulmer did a great job from 93-99, but since he has had one good year and a bunch of average at best.

i dont think our offense was bad last year. we had 2 1000 yard rushers and 3 qbs were successful. how it went from that to what we had this year is beyond me.

I am the first to admit I don't have all, probably any answers.

But it has been woefully obvious our offense has not kept up with the changing NCAA landscape. It's all fine we had 2 1000 yd. rushers, just how far did that carry us.

I believe the m.o. of UT changed so much last year that it caught several of our opponents off guard. First off when was the last time UT started multiple freshmen qb's. Secondly, let's remember many of those opposing Head Coaches were on their last leg.

Good post! I noted you seemed to have forgotten the REST of my post.
Something like just how inept our offense has become in the last few years.

Yes that could be a dare to "highlight" that.

Keeping it REAL.

Please no editing........

Especially from those that insist on ONLY seeing what they want!

Pls keep it REAL.
