Don't really have an opinion of Kesling one way or another, quite honestly I never listen unless the game is not on tv. Cool link though.

Kesling is a terrible play by play guy, you can never tell whats going on, go back and listen to some John Ward tapes, he knew how to describe what was going on in a play, Kesling cant describe a play at all, hes terrible.

When you say John Ward, you've said it all!

Only thing I can say about B.K., he is better than that idiot announcer at UF.

Oh myyyy.....how sickening!

Kesling is pretty vanilla, but getting better. Ward is a legend, but he was a little difficult to follow sometimes; especially if you were watching live since he tended to stay behind the action.

GAVol, the only thing getting better about Boob Kesling is....um...nothing.

You're probably right. One thing I've noticed about Kesling is that you have no idea how much he screws up until you try to listen to him while you are actually at the game.

The funniest thing from the SC game was when he said that SC's RB, Daicus Turman, was limping off the field. My Gamecock friend and I started laughing when we looked down and saw Turman was actually doing some sort of Ray Lewis dance in celebration of a big run. :D

Not to beat a dead horse, but listen to him interviewing the players and coaches after the basketball game if you can....

he asks a question, then answers it and all the interviewee can do is say yes and comment, for example:

Boob: Stanley Asumnu everybody, Stanley how did Coach Pearl prepare you for the game today, he told us his goal was to run up and down the court and get them tired (sticks mic in face of SA)
SA: Uhhh, yes, that's what we did.

Good points Volunteer. I have said on this board before, that wheather it's football or basketball, all post game interviews are padded questions. I think they do this because the players really don't know how to answer a question or they feel that they don't want the player to make a fool of himself. The player for the most part, doesn't seem to be able to make complete statements or sentances. Do the english departments ever listen to these interviews. If I bring someone to the game that has never been before, and I am trying to get them to bleed orange, I will turn down the post game interviews because, I don't want them to hear these players talk. I am sick of ebonics, and hucking and bucking.

Years ago at KY the basketball players (Joe B. Hall era) were required to take a speech class their freshman years. They could actually answer questions without 500 you knows. I don't know if this is still done or not.

section, i think it is less the players can't talk and more of Boob wanting to hear himself talk.

Haven't heard much of Kesling, but for 40 years, Kentucky had the best in the business-- Cawood Ledford. The man was from the mountains of SE Kentucky, right on the TN border, but he could call a great game.

His replacement, Ralph Hacker, sucked.

Our current play-by-play guy is an admitted homer, but he's pretty exciting to listen to, even when we're down by 30. :biggrin2:

A couple of his calls:

KY vs. Michigan State, 2005 NCAA Tourney

KY vs. Idaho State, September 2005

Leach is just low profile enough to have a long career. He is unassuming and likeable.

He's the hardest-working man in the business. He'll call a basketball game on the road, fly back home to make his AM show on WLAP, then turn around and do a 5 PM football call-in show that same evening. I hope he's around for a long time.

Kesling is much better at basketball than football, IMO.

I listened to the Memphis game on the radio a few weeks ago and had no idea where the ball was half the time.

I think that overall the broadcast team is better than what it used to be. We just need a better play by play person than Kesling.
