I am so tired of reading about how Butch Jones already is a failure and will never win in the SEC. I just looked at another SEC coach and what his first recruiting classes were ranked at two SEC schools in 2000 and 2007:

2000 Class Ranking: 29 (this one was hard to find).

2007 Class Ranking: 22. Even with a National Championship on his resume, the best he could do at his new school was 22.

The Negavol Legion Of The Miserables would obviously agree that this guy sucks. It is doubtful that he ever amounted to anything as a college coach. Four National Championships later, I think Nick Saban would disagree.

The moral of the story is this. When you have a down program like ours, a good coach will coach up the players he has and start showing some success on the field. This makes the program more attractive, and then the coach starts improving on recruiting every year after that.

Players flock to success.

Good post my friend! I am sick of the negavols as well. Have a good outlook he only had 31 days to recurit. And did pretty darn good in the short amount of time. Kids now days don't remember UT being a powerhouse they are to young. All they have heard is Bama, LSU, Auburn, those type schools. Win we start winning and I truly know we will the players will come. I think Butch knows this is the case he knows when they win with all the other things UT has to offer it is a no brainer for players.

Why does everyone keep saying he only had 31 days to recruit? Did you not notice how many of the players on our roster were being recruited by CBJ a year ago when he was at Cincinnati?

Look at the players that he was already recruiting!

Then add the one's who were already committed to being a Vol, such as Riley & the offensive lineman from Cleveland, Tennessee.

Then add the players that Martinez caused to flip to U.T. that he was recruiting already prio to joining the U.T. staff.

Then add the few that CBJ caused to flip in the last 31 days prior to signing day and we have our class....

Because he only had 31 days to recruit these kids to Tennessee or to keep their commitments with the new staff. Simple point of fact.

I'm so sick of the possivols trying to put 2 and 2 together any and everywhere they can. Show me wins and ill post about how great of a job youre doing. Until then i could care less what someone did 5 years ago at some other school. This is not saban and this is not bama circa 2007. Dig deeper into other peoples success and their statistics and trying to connect the dots. It does nothing to help butch win games next year. Have fun

Whiners are going to whine. I'll reserve my legitimate whining for the unfortunate case in which we get our asses handed to us next season and quit after half time like most of the games under Dooley's train wreck of an era.

I don't think you get it. It isn't about reality. It isn't about one particular thing. These guys simply HAVE to be negative.

Some probably are just that way about everything. They are just glass-half-empty people. It's sad, but it just is. We all know real humans like that.

Others have just created their own little internet world in which they can spew their bile. It's fun for them. It provides an venue for them to swing their virtual man parts around.

The reality is that none of us really has that much of an idea what the future holds. But, VolNation can't stay afloat with one "let's wait and see" post with 234,000 likes. It needs controversy. Reason holds no fun here. If you want to be "liked," you have to pick a side.

And, frankly, negativity is easier. The script for Oscar the Grouch was not hard to write. Grouchy Smurf wasn't hard to predict. Just pick something (or someone) and hate it.

Plus, the Half-full people aren't "I told you so" sorts for the most part. So, you can get away with more as a Negavol. You just say whatever you want, and then when things actually turn out ok, you throw out an "I'm glad I was wrong." How can you refute that? It's the Kobayashi Maru.

But, if things do go bad, then you have the mighty "I said all along . . . ", and you can beat people over the head with it. You have strong medicine!!! You are a freakin' psychic! You have great internet status and all your internet subjects must bow before you!!!

It's all in good fun. Don't get too bent out of shape about it.

You totally misinterpreted my post. Not trying to say that it points to Jones' impending success. Instead, I was showing how, even a proven and great coach coach like Saban doesn't exactly set the world on fire in their first recruiting class.

I am like the other poster. I will reserve my judgment on CBJ until after I see the team on the field.

I've been on VN for years, and I have never seen anybody compared to Nick Saban.

Ha! All the Dooley lovers consistently compared him to Saban. A lot of them even went as far as to point out his resume was better than Nick's when he was hired at LSU.

I'm glad you "could care less" - you're not completely lost. Seriously though, all of this bickering is just ridiculous. Class is what it is let's just see what the team can do in the spring and fall. If they compete it's all we can ask for. The real test will be the recruiting class of 2014

This is for supposed Vol fans on here and the radio who are already calling Butch a failure...it's known he has to coach up the current players and deliver on the field...continue keeping it real

Yeah, but Butch should have done much better than Saban did in his first recruiting classes at new schools. LSU and Alabama didn't have the great winning tradition that we have. :ermm::ermm:

It's not so much that Jones in particular sucks at this point, it's that the entire athletic department sucks.

He is partially a victim of circumstances but he can only truly be judged on one thing to this point, the 2013 recruiting class.

And that fell short of expectations by all parties, including Jones himself if you were to catch him in a candid moment. It could not possibly have been his master plan all along to sign only 21 recruits and miss out on so many yesterday.

Think I'd hold off on drawing comparisons between Jones and Saban until Jones has 4 national titles under his belt in under a decade as well.

CBJ isn't Nick Saban

Neither was Nick Saban in 2000. he was just another coach moving up to a bigger job in the SEC and putting together a 29th rated recruiting class. That class ultimately helped him beat a highly favored Tennessee team for the SEC title a few years later (a Tennessee team comprised of top-10 classes).

HUH?????
Are you really that clueless. 17-18 yr old recruits today could a crap less about tradition. Most if not all have could NOT pick Majors, Neyland or even Fulmer out of a lineup! They ALL see themselves as 5 Star studs with a big payday in the NFL ahead of them.
History to these boyz is max 2 yrs ago.
I will judge this Coaching Staff as I will his program, in a year down the road. Not on W's but progress.
This program has to get up off the mat and start working before we start worryin bout stars behind recruits names.
Better winning tradition that LSU and Bammer.....that is hilarious!!

I notice you went with Scout's ranking. It should be pointed out that Rivals had Bama's 2007 class at #10.

I'm betting that you are calling Tennessee's current class "Top 20" despite the fact that Scout has them at #32.

Let's not pick and choose.

makes little sense we would get nobody at all and bama lsu florida would have nothing but 5 star players. players come for the coach simple as that. the coach has to close the deal, and sell the players on the university. jones didn't close it is that simple.
