For anyone that says "well, 7th isnt that bad" you are settling for mediocrity.
Look at the teams below us. We are the University of Tennesse we are supposed to be at least top 3. Something MUST be done about this.

I don't think anyone thinks that defense is not a problem right now.

But Chavis has had too much sucess to throw him under the bus right now.

I think it should be better, but probably no better than 4th. We lost 6 of our front 7 from last year and another that would be a starter and prolly 2nd best DT. Then we lost an AA DT. Add that to the fact that Mapu still isn't where he should be and we should be in trouble. Our LBs are pretty young other than Mitchell. Our DBs have been hurt by injury by losing one potential starting CB and then losing the best cover corner on the team. I will eat pounds of crow and record it for the nation to watch if our defense isn't much improved next year. We should be way better at stopping the run, but about the same at covering the pass. The X factor against the pass will be that we may actually have a pass rush next year.

I do think that Chavis needs to be more aggressive(ala send the house) on 3rd and longs, but he hasn't changed yet so I doubt he will.

how about since all of these posters know more than the coaches you go out and win all these games that you know that we shoulda, woulda, coulda beat and know that we should be in the top three. Look do the math. We have injuries, a lot of talent left last year, and the lack of depth. It doesn't appear out of thin air so get over it.

sorry for the double post...but why do we have a lack of depth? I know there are some redshirts, but there are also a lot of junior and senior scholarship athletes just riding the bench.

the secondary is compensating for the loss of Inky, our line is a coupe of freshman against a lot of these offensive lines that are full of seniors, the defense is very thin at linebacker. We would have had to have Al Wilson, Lenard Little, and Kevin Simon to stop that run last night, let's just face it this defense is a bunch of fighters that will try their dead level best but they are hurt and it shows

I am beginning to wonder how much this team will be able to count on Mapu and Bolden.

I believe I heard the other day by Fulmer that he is concerned about the progression of Mapu but I could be wrong

Isn't that the reason they give you a 80 man roster:whistling: . Just whistling in the dark.

IMO, this is a cop-out for a poor job.

We are replacing eight starters from a year ago. We arent good at all at DT. I figured we were going to take some lumps this year, and we have.

Now, Ohio State replaced 9 starters and havent missed a beat. But I dont think the problem is Chavis. Its talent. Last year's d-line put two in the NFL, with Harrell soon to be the third. Of our current starting d-line, who will make it to the nfl?
