This board is chock full of 'em.
Urban Dictionary: sunshine pumper

1. sunshine pumper

One who fails to realize the reality of a situation, and instead continues to support/ballyhoo a person, program, etc.

The sunshine pumper sees that their team and coaches are playing hard equating to good, when in fact the players are not performing adequately and the coaches have failed to properly recruit/train/coach the team.

Gameday bucket go...Boom!

What are you so butthurt about? Even I have a few reasons to smile these days.

We could just use a more proper terminology. There are those who have been consistently right the past three years and those who are consistently wrong. It's not a matter of negative vs. positive. It's a difference between clear logical thought and outright stupidity.

Says one of the biggest negative nancy`s on this board.

My mother always told me, "You have to have the rainy days in order to appreciate the sunny days. If It's always sunny, then what's there to look forward to, except the same ole', same ole"?

A LITTLE sunshine pumping never hurt anyone.

The crazy thing is there are people that do not like the direction of the program. This is Tennessee fan site. We are all fans and those of us who have real concerns about the program cannot have an intelligent conversation about the program with most of you. There's a few of you berryforheisman77 is about the only Pumper you can actually hold a conversation with. About the concerns of the program. The rest of you say go away, your a idiot go away etc. Let me tell you a true idiot is a person that will run away and call names when questioned.

This is true. And there are those of you that complains every time the headcoach rips a fart that don`t stink.

So your comment goes both ways. The so-called nay sayers do the same thing.

Also for your edge-u-macation:

1. nay sayer

a person or group of people who don't agree with your ideas based on their "hater" personalities

this group of nay sayers doesn't believe it will work because they don't want us to succeed.

1. negative nancy

Someone who commonly whines, complains, or looks at the bad side of things.

2. Negative Nancy

Someone submitted to an extreme amount of negativity

3. negative nancy

Someone who is constantly a downer and has a negative influence on others.

And this board is chocked FULL of these too.

Summed up in two words, wet blankets ! :hi::hi:

Going out on a limb and saying Dooley wasn't going to get us back sure was ballsy. What a great football mind you have.

Again, some people handle situations better. Some handle tough situations like men. Some cry adnauseum and handle tough situations like cowards.

Blind optimism is foolish and proves destructive.

Dogged negativity is depressing and proves destructive.

Realism allows one to have hope while preparing for potential trouble. This is where successful people reside. I believe CBJ and staff are realists. They realize it takes single minded focus, talent, synergy, loyalty, intelligence, and hard work to accomplish great things over time. As a realist I understand that the staff must prove to be capable of accomplishing great things. I hope for that to happen. I know there will be major obstacles to overcome. My expectations are realistic.

I hope UT wins the SEC next season because of the belief that this staff brings more positive attributes than the previous staff including winning with lesser talent players. I doubt they will because changing schemes and system takes time for players to understand and act upon in the very best conference in college football history. I believe they will improve and win at a higher level than previously. That is a realistic expectation.

Where do the realists fit in?

2. Realist says: We probably won't beat them but I will be there cheering them on nonetheless. Just want to play a good game, don't get hurt for next week (where we stand a chance to win), and be close at the end.

I have been called an Ol' Miss fan for this. I have hope and pull for our coach believing that things will get better. That's not to say that if I were to predict the future it wouldn't be riddled full of struggles but I choose not to focus on that part. I choose to focus on the positive.

I like Hope better then Hate.

Why spend your days hating people and trying to push this type of attitude upon them.

I look at it differently than pos or neg person. I have min and Max expectations for my sports teams, myself and the vols. When those expectations are not met then I have a tendency to be more vocal especially when the min side is controllable. The vols should be 8 n 4 every year at a min now that we r playing 12 games. IMO.

Doesn't make me a negative person.

Did hart hire that min or Max guy? I think more on the min side and I wished he would have went for the Max.

Negative minded people are always Losers in life and are miserable people.

Their only real fun is to attempt to pull down everyone they can into misery like they live in constantly.

My condolences oh ye sad miserable loser but you can NEVER pull me down into the misery that you freely choose to live in.

I honestly pity these sad, pathetic people and I pray they get the psychological help they so badly need very soon.

May God bless and comfort them.

VFL...GBO!!!

Thanks for the prayers, ace. But I'm actually an extremely happy person! :birgits_giggle: I just call things like I see it. We made a desperate hire. Any coach that got clobbered by Doolander is a desperate hire. That statement alone is a checkmate in my favor. That's all I have to say - Butch lost to Doolander, a coach who lost to UK that year, who had WAY less talent than Cincy.
But I see the rosy side of things in everything. I'm happy I get to save money instead of blowing it on this team!

I think it's tricky to equate sports with life or business. One is a pasttime in which in my view it's absolutely permissible to indulge in temporary delusions, fantasies, and sensational expectations for the sheer joy of the experience especially when shared with those you love. It's akin to reckless abandon. In life and business or education a little bit of wisdom and discernment is actually required in order to avert abject failure. As fans we really don't have all that much impact on the outcome of most games or seasons. If we did a lot of us would get cut because face it there are a lot of 2 star fans on this board. Now to be a 5 star fan you HAVE to be the elite of the elite in "sunshine pumping". jmo.

I always, regardless of the circumstances, the roster, the coaches, whatever, go into the new season and new game expecting the vols to kick everybody's butt. So what if I'm disappointed every now and again. It was fun while it lasted and in truth it's really about the only fun we as fans have been able to have over the past few seasons. I would much rather suffer the momentary post game disappointmet than to give up all joy in the sport. If we have no hope, real or imagined, what's the point? Dreading the future when you have little to no leverage to change things is not in my view very healthy; nor is it all that much fun.

I think Freak ought to have summer camps where we as fans could show off our sunshine pumping abilities and then we could come away with star ratings. That might just be what we need as a fanbase to get us to the point where we actually deserve the recognition as the best fanbase in all of America.

If you want to know the difference between a sunshine pumper, a.k.a. 5-star fan, and a 2 star fan, follow the money. The two star fan is oftentimes much better at betting on the games so therein is his reward. He sells out his team support for money.

It's almost a buyer beware situation with this program anymore.. Just when you think it may turn for the good something squashes it...

I'm neither excited or optimistic about the Jones hire, more like reserved.. In this case, it's going to be all about what is done on the field and nothing else.. VFL programs, meet and greets with golden oldies, all of that is nice, none of it gets me all stoked for vol ball.. Only wins and seeing a well coached team will do it at this point..

This program is at the lowest point that i can remember.. When you're mulling the possibility of losing two straight to Vandy , all isn't well on the hill..

Great example of optimism vs pessimism CV.

You mull the possibility of losing two straigtht to Vandy and feel gloomy for nearly a year if thats what you choose to do.

I'm looking forward to kicking their candy a$$ and can't wait to see me some Butchball.

Who is happier?? :dunno:

well if you want to look at it in black and white then you are correct, however there is another way to look at it also.

After CBJ and Cincy lost to Tennessee they recovered and went on to win their conference championship and play in a bowl game and we went on to a losing season capped by losing to KY.

So it seems to me we hired a winning coach who didnt give up or let his team give up. Thats the real difference in a winning coach and a losing coach.

More important we hired a winning coach who wants to rebuild our Tennessee Vols.

I still have a level of interest in the Vols or i wouldn't log on here anymore.. My interest has waned the last few years, that's a fact.. I want to see them do well, but i don't let it consume me like when i was younger..

Now if we were winning would my attitude toward it be different? Maybe.. I wish we were in the position to find out..

Honestly football in general has taken a back seat to a few other interests i have now. I'm not sure it would be much different if we were winning.. All part of getting older i guess..That's just were i'm at in my life..:salute:

I hope Butch is the answer.. I won't be all in until he proves it on the field though, nothing he does outside of that really matters IMO..

One who fails to realize the reality of a situation, and instead continues to support/ballyhoo a person, program, etc.

So, realizing that we have a staff that's won everywhere they've been, and who only had less than a month to pull a class together, is failing to realize the reality of the situation? Even though that's the actual situation?

Ummm... OK

The sunshine pumper sees that their team and coaches are playing hard equating to good, when in fact the players are not performing adequately and the coaches have failed to properly recruit/train/coach the team.

Gameday bucket go...Boom!

Considering that we haven't seen our players play, or our coaches coach under this staff, I have to ask? Who doesn't have a grasp on reality here?
