Alan Mulally is one of the best CEO's around today. He was driving a Lexus and called it the best car in the world when he was announced as Ford's new CEO. He doesn't believe in rose colored glasses and has encouraged his staff to also feel comfortable in saying what's on their minds... i.e. no sugar-coating allowed.

I saw a story somewhere that they picked up market share partly because they didn't take government money. Some might be principle some might be concern about the future of GM/Chrysler.

Either way, good to see.

I think they've been more aggressive in hybrids and technology (e.g. SYNC) than the other two dinosaurs and that's probably got a lot to do with it too.

They did better than the other two before clunkers. The Ford CEO (Mullaly, I think?) is doing a good job.

no question. ford is the best of the us automakers. but that is kind of like being the one eyed man in teh land of the blind

id rather be able to be able to see and have bad depth perception then to blindly follow around the voice of a "shepard"

The Boeing guy who is running the company has done a good job. A lot of the new cars are being engineered in Germany and built in Mexico, its more of a global company then American company now. Not a bad thing. I think the Ford Focus and the Ford Fiesta which is coming out in 2011 were engineered in Ford Europe (Germany) and the Fiesta is going to be built in Mexico. I think they reduced there stake in Mazda to like 11%.

now if Ford could just extricate itself from the clutches of the corrupt UAW.

It'd also be nice if they gave the V-6 Mustang more horsepower. It's 100 shy of the Camaro V-6 and Hyundai Genesis Coupe V-6 and a Toyota Camry can beat it to 60 mph.

It would be nice if they could shuck the UAW... I kind of wonder if they knew they weren't stuck with the pricetag of nearly 100 bucks an hour for their employees if they'd open up a plant here in the south to build their smaller cars. Honest question not a statement of "believed fact."

I'm just saying that if Chevy and Hyundai can drop 300 plus HP V-6's in their base cars, Ford can too.

Then what would they have to sell to the father that is buying the first car for the 16 year old daughter?

well point in case why most of your foreign car companies are moving to the non-union south. Look at what all Volkswagon is going to be bringing to Chattanooga

anybody who buys a 16 year old a brand new mustang needs their head examined.

brand new anything for that matter. a 16 year old has done nothing to deserve that level of responsibility.

16 year old girls have never been the target demo of the Mustang. My point through all of this is that in this one area, Ford is lagging behind it's competition and for some reason, it almost always has. The V8 GT beat both the Camaro SS and Challenger RT in a recent Car and Driver comparison. It did it with 100 fewer horsepower. Why can't it's V6 be a class leader as well?

I was raised in a Ford family. It's all I've ever known.

I love my F-250 Power Stroke 4x4.

Love my Fords but the UAW will continue to make things hard on them. Just saw yesterday where Ford workers voted down modifications to their current contract. They were similar modifications as GM and Chrysler workers have already agreed to. These are the types of scenarios that make it easy to understand why companies move operations to other countries. Goodness I despise organized labor in the US.
