today on the sports animal fred white said that tennessee secondary seems to be afraid to hit people and smack them in the mouth. he said they need to have someone like the days of him and deon grant. whats your thoughts? i tend to agree whole heartedly!

I never viewed Grant as a hard hitter. But I always thought White was an excellent SS for helping against the run.

Deon was one of the best cover safeties to ever wear orange, but he wouldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat, so I assume Fred's talking about himself here.

Yeah, he even joked about Deon's reluctance to hit and chuckled a bit. (Also said he is godfather to Deon's little girl).

Exactly. Deon played the ball. Fred hit people in the mouth.

Fred White was good old home grown Griffin, GA talent. One of a long list of recruits from GHS to UT, and many others to all points. Wish I had been on that list. Man we put alot of guys into college. Especially back when they were good.

Deon was GA talent as well. He went to HS close to where I grew up.

Back in the late 70's on up to Fred White, we were putting them in UT, UGA, FSU, Troy, Clemson, Wisc., Fort Valley (Tuggle), AU, GT, Ga. Sou., West GA, Ole Miss. Those are just the ones I can think of.

All Vol fans owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Rodney Garner. Too bad TCHFCATUTK could only realize Rodney's value by allowing him to leave for UGA and aid Richt in kicking our teeth in.

I just wish that we could take Al Wilson's intensity and put it into all of defensive players. Tennessee needs a vocal leader on and off the field like him. He demanded that all players play up to their potential.

Yeah, Fred was a linebacker in safetys clothing
He actually played a game or two at OLB in '98 or '99. We had a couple of injuries and we moved him down to OLB. I have said it once and I will say it again, Myers-White could be the same type of SS that White was but the coaching staff is hell bent on moving him to OLB.:BANGHEAD2:

the key there being "allowed him to leave". There is obviously a reason for that.

I have sparred with Hat on this board about RG on several occasions, but I have to say RG brought talent in.

When I think about the timeline, CPF began to see RG as a distraction, but at the same time he was personally pushing away a lot of people close to the program. RG left at about the same time people were becoming vocal about Sanders.

I hope Morley turns out to be a star, but as of now I do not see what this guy has done to get such high praise from so many people.

Morley needs to figure out what he's doing and where he is on the field before he can start hitting people.

Oh son, Fred White, I remember that cat. He would straight pop someone in their jaw. I always thought of him as a mini-Al Wilson.

One year vs. Florida I belive it was at Florida he hit Bo Carrol, my god, it was maybe the hardest hit I have seen to this day. They showed the replay with sound and it was like a gun going off. I'm with Fred our DB's do look like PAC10'erns trying to lay a lick on someone.

They need to be put in a cage and smacked around for about a week.
