Nick Lamaison
on ESPN College Football Rumors
It's been a long road for Nick Lamaison -- one year of junior college, a redshirt year at Tennessee followed by a failed attempt to transfer, and then a second year of juco ball -- but he finally appears poised to land a starting QB job at a Division I-A school.
When coach Mike Price released his spring game rosters, rising junior Lamaison and redshirt freshman Javia Hall were grouped with most of the first-team offense. Asked if that means that Lamaison and Hall are the front-runners in the four-man QB race, Price replied: "That would be where it is right now. That could certainly change from what it is right now. We're going to see what the evaluation is like after the game."
Of course, being the front-runner coming out of spring practice only ensures that you'll take the first snaps of training camp. The starting job is still far from secure. "There's a lot of evaluation," Price said. "Encouraging other players to come out and catch the ball in the summer, to come work out, to show leadership. Some of the best quarterbacks become leaders in the summer. The evaluation isn't over Saturday night."
Rising senior Tate Smith and rising sophomore former walk-on Carson Meger are the other QB candidates.
