Sad news out of Memphis, former VOL Dave Bennett passes from ALS. Dave was a hard hitting Vol who played from 1989-1992 under Coach Majors, RIP!

RIP

I have a coworker who recently had to quit because he was diagnosed with ALS. That's a rough disease. Doctors gave him maybe two years.

He's been granted some much needed relief. I really hope we find a cure for that awful illness.

Thanks for the link BigBadVol. Prayers to the family sent. You'd think that we could find a cure for this terrible disease. He left this life too early at just 42 years. May God be with the family in this time of need.

Awful news ---42. Just way too young to go. ALS is a horrible disease. Knew a girl afflicted with it. Why can they still not determine the cause? Must be a common denominator. Immune system deficiency; I suppose, and some free radical enters the body. RIP.

I remember watching Bennett make a ferocious hit on KO coverage against Vandy in 89', as I recall.

I worked at the Last Lap at the time, and one evening Dave Bennett, Marion Hobby, Mark Moore, and Ernest Fields walked into the bar. I high fived Bennett and mentioned his hit on the Vandy player. He smiled huge and said "thanks for noticing, man!" He always made a point to come in and say hello after that exchange.

Sorry to hear of his passing. RIP Dave Bennett!!

We've got a former Prattville Lion and Philidelphia Eagle (I won't mention Alabubba) fighting ALS here in Kevin Turner. To hear him speak on what this disease does to a person and especially how he copes with it is beyond moving.

RIP Dave...A true VFL!

Amen! I gained loads of respect for KT watching that film. Steve Gleason has it also. I met him a few years ago at a charity event in Biloxi, MS. Talk about a humble man, when he found out I was in the USAF he had more questions for me than I had for him being an NFL player...
