Former Tennessee point guard C.J. Watson had a strong showing last week at the Rocky Mountain Revue, an NBA summer league in Salt Lake City, Utah. Playing in all six games for the San Antonio Spurs, Watson ranked second in the six-team league with 3.8 assists while adding 6.0 points and 1.3 steals per game. An 87.8 percent free throw shooter as a senior at Tennessee in 2006, Watson led all players at the RMR with a 91.7 free throw percentage.

Watson dished out eight assists in leading the Spurs to a 79-71 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on the tournament's first day. His best scoring effort came against the Atlanta Hawks when he was 5-of-8 from the field to score 10 points in less than 21 minutes of action.

A three-time captain of the Vols, Watson finished his career at Tennessee ranking second all-time in assists (577), steals (198) and minutes played (4,058). The Las Vegas native earned 118 starting assignments in 119 career games and scored 1,424 career points in his four seasons in Knoxville. He became just the second player in school history and the ninth player in SEC history to have 1,000 points and 500 assists in a career.

thats good but i wonder if 6 pts 3 assists is good enough to make a team when he is one of 12 guys competing for a spot

I hope C.J. shows enough to stick on some NBA team's roster. I just wonder, though - In those summer leagues, against what is generally less than the NBA's best - is 6 points per game enough??? Assists are great and all, but you might want someone that can provide more of an offensive spark when coming off the bench. Anyway, good luck "quiet storm". GO VOLS!!

i dont think that will be enough. He's playing mostly with other rookies i dont know why they call that shining but that looks like very average player against very average players to me

One thing going for CJ is that the team that drafted him, San Antonio, did not make any draft picks this year. CJ is a class act and a very likable guy and I hope he gets his shot.
