Vols in Monday Night Football

Donte Stallworth (Eagles)
Omar Gaither (Eagles)
Darwin Walker (Eagles)
David Martin (Packers)

Offensive MVP: Peyton Manning, QB, Colts
Manning, yet again, did just enough to get his team the win. He threw a TD pass to his TE with 2:30 left in the 4th to put the Colts up 24-21. The Jets returned to following kickoff to regain the lead. Manning then led ANOTHER game-winning TD drive, in which he hit Reggie Wayne on the 1 yard line. From there, Peyton scored on a QB sneak. Colts won 31-28.

Defensive MVP: Deon Grant, FS, Jaguars
Despite the Jaguars 36-30 loss to Washington in OT, Grant played very well. He finished with 8 total tackles and recovered a fumble.

Rookie of the Week: Jesse Mahelona, DT, Titans
Mahelona was really the only first year player from Tennessee that did much. Omar Gaither has a chance perform better on Monday night. Mahelona finished the game with 2 solo tackles.

Andre Lott, who was released by the Washington Redskins before the season started, was picked up by the San Diego Chargers. He had 2 solo tackles in a key game against the Ravens, which they lost.

Oh... and like a previous thread said, Albert Haynesworth made a huge mistake today by kicking that guy in the head. He had to have stitches on his forehead and below his eye. Haynesworth will likely be suspended, fined, and will be lucky to keep his spot on the Titans roster.

The lowlights were definitely Cedric Houston getting carted off the field and Albert Haynesworth getting thrown off it. I hope Ced is OK, but I hope Al doesn't see the field for the rest of the season. Sucks for the Titans, he is one of their best players.

Yeah, Cedric was running the ball with authority before he got hurt. Hope it isn't anything serious...

The already thin and average DLine definitely needs him to stick around.

I would have given the Defensive MVP to Shaun Ellis.

5 Solo's and 2 sacks for a 3-4 DE is very impressive. He is a beast.

Just saw Peerless Price's TD. That was an incredible individual effort.

You forgot to credit Haynesworth with his Kevin Sullivan quality stomp.

Yeah, I think he's deserving as well. I would almost credit him with giving the Jets the ability to stay in the game with the Colts. The Colts were up 7-0 early in the first and driving easily again, then Ellis sacked Peyton for a big loss and the Colts ended up punting. It gave the Jets momentum and they stayed in the game from then on.

Looks like Mahelona will get to start at DT in place of Haynesworth, assuming he gets suspended for a while. Mahelona is listed behind Haynesworth on the depth chart, so it looks as though he will move into the starting role. Maybe he can establish himself in the NFL in his rookie season.

Thanks Hat. Im one of his 3 youngest sons. Im not royalty though but it is wild how no matter where we go in East Tennessee people recognize my dad. He dont get around all to well these days but hes without a doubt the baddest SOB Ive ever known and me or none of my buddies who are all in our 20's dare cross swords with that 68 yr old man. He actually was being recruited by the Vols when Bowden Wyatt was coaching as a middle linebacker and full back when he was in high school (dobyns-bennett) but got caught wrestling professionally and that ruined his amatuer status to play any sports.

Your father has provided those of us who grew up in East Tennessee with a lifetime of entertaining memories. I'm sure he could probably still deal out an East Tennessee Dawg Whoopin' if he had to.

I can think of no greater vindication of my opinion of TCHFCATUTK than hearing that Mr. Wright agrees with me.
