With the legwork of spring practice complete, Jancek is satisfied with the execution of it and the progress the Volunteers' much-maligned defense made.

"We got a lot in, I think," he said following Thursday morning's practice, noting that the Vols installed 70 to 80 percent of his defense.

...After statistically having the program's worst defense in 2012, the Vols were eager to erase the memories and embrace a less confusing scheme with a new and more teaching-oriented coaching staff. The defensive coaches mixed a constant emphasis on basics such as tackling, swarming to the ball and playing with the attitude and mindset they demand with a steady installation process. The result was a step toward repairing a broken unit.

Can't wait to see it on the field, somewhat on Saturday but mainly the improvement from last year during the fall

Thanks kamo.

Loved this...

"There's nothing that I shouldn't be focusing on, to be honest with you," rising senior defensive end Corey Miller said Tuesday when asked about his summer goals. "I'm staying here over the month of May. I'm staying in the weight room and I'm going to work out.

"I already called Mom and told her I wasn't coming home. This is the last opportunity. I want to work on my feet, my first step off the ball, quickness, hand placement and all types of things and just to take an extra step."

One of CBJ's first statements to this team was "I never want you to come back years later and tell me I wish you pushed me harder." I think the message is clear to this team.

This is great. Feel for the kid for having Dooley as HC for his first 3 years. Sounds like he's doing all he can to make up time and be his best for the season and hopefully get drafted. Wish him nothing but luck on both counts.

It is possible!! Look at the improvement that Crompton made under one season with Kiffin vs. a season with Clawson's offense......

Miller can get himself in a position to be drafted...

I am still pissed off on how good we couldve been last year with even a mediocre defense. But we had an awful horrible terrible defense.

Yeah, but if the defense had been better we'd most likely be stuck with Dooley. I know enough now to know that I'm very glad Dooley is gone.

no doubt. With a competent defense we could have gone toe to toe with about anybody last year.

Corey Miller is made for this D. He has Malik type size and quickness. Just needs the right scheme to excel. He is a legitimate pass rusher from inside. I hope he achieves his dreams, because if he does there is a good chance the team will as well.

Yall do realize that when yall call the D incompetent, etc yall are talking about the players too, right? Last time I checked they were on the field.

I love how people come on here call a guy like Dooley an idiot for trying to implement a D that's not easy and takes time. Got to love the ecoaches of VN. This site must have some of the richest, smartest, most successful pretty people in the country the way this site bashes the guy.

What should really piss you off is when Bray goes on ESPN and says he put in about 7 out of 10 effort here. That goes back on DD and Chaney. That is nothing short of a total embarrsment to this program.

He made an incredibly poor decision to go to the 3-4 defense last year when he didn't have the personnel. He also didn't have the time to implement it.... his job was on the line after the poor 2011 season culminated by the historic loss to Kentucky.

I feel for the players because they were good the year before in the 4-3 under Wilcox. Top 30 nationally. Dooleys bad decision to move to the 3-4 led to the worst UT defense in school history, and ultimately his firing.

Hindsight is 20/20 bud. Not many on here thought it was a bad thing when he said he was going to do it. Especially when McCullers was signed. Which was a key part to having the right personnel for it. It was a risk he took for the long term success of the team. And dousche bags like u on a MSG board sit here and bash the guy as if you would hold a candle to the guys' cfb knowledge.

At the end of the day imo he took the risk because the O was to be high scoring. So all the growing pains would be covered up. There was no better time than this past yr to implement such a drastic change. Unfortunatly Bray did what he did out there on the field, and messed up the gameplan. He didn't expect to lose DR before the season either.

That's just my opnion. But what do I know I'm not an actual fan like u r. I'm starting to wonder if you and vollygril are together cause the 2 of y'all have become the self annoited determiners of who are real fans.
