Nice... lets see if it all pays off.

got fingers crossed.

AllV... I understand your point. The Ws are what will matter. But these things are what will create the Ws.

When you play a round of golf, you don't sit around wondering and hoping about what the score will be. You keep your head down, in the moment, and concentrate on making the best individual shot you can make at that time. The final score is made up of each individual shot.

That's what's happening right now at UT. They have their head down, hitting great shots, knowing that the "final score" will be a result of what they are doing now.

It may be more enjoyable to watch the individual shots right now and cheer the good shots than to follow everything up with "hope we don't end up with an 82."

But again, I understand your point and don't disagree that Ws are what will define the tenure. But it's OK to cheer a long putt, or perfect drive, without making caveats. IMHO, it's a lot more enjoyable.

I like the golf analogy. The question is, can UT move back from the red tees they've been playing on? The red tee teams (UT-Martin, etc.) we've made birdies and pars. When UT's has moved back to the "Blues" (Miss State, USC) and Heaven help us "The Tips" (UF, Bama, LSU, UGA) is where they've struggled.

I don't disagree. We've got the talent to do it. All indications are that the talent quotient is only getting better. The staff looks like they're hitting amazing shots. I'm all for letting them hit the shots and counting the strokes up when the scorecard is filled.

The defeatist "yah, but..." attitude gets in the way of enjoying the shots and the round while it's in progress. :)

(AllVol... Wasn't saying you're in the "defeatist, yah but..." group.)

And obviously, they've been playing from the tips all along. Just not posting good scores. All indications are that they're hitting better shots from the tips than they were.

You can actually put the golf analogy to what Butch was telling the punters.

Don't lift your head on your drive, hit the ball, then lift your head and look for the ball. Lifting your head causes you to miss hit the drive.

In light of all the golf analogies, fair question:

How many mulligans will Volnation give CBJ?

If this first year is rough, I'd be willing to bet 75% of the posters on this board will be convinced he has either the yips or the shanks.

No time has Tennessee been in worse shape at QB, RB TE and WR and Ive followed the Vols since 1964. There is no proven talent at any of those positions right now.....At least Dools had Jones and Moore at WR and Stocker at TE his first yr.

"No proven talent" != "No talent".

The fact is that you really don't know what shape UT is in.
