Frank Thomas released.

I guess that's what happens when you're only hitting .170 and then get angry when they take you out of the starting lineup. I still think Thomas would be a valuable bat off the bench for an AL team, but he's got to realize first that his days as an everyday player are over.

It's a mess all the way around. He didn't do himself any favors by whining to the media, but this is less about performance than the Blue Jays are just making sure he doesn't trigger an option year by giving him 300 at bats. I can understand them being leery of a 39 year old hitting .167, but this is a guy that had 27 HRs and 95 RBI last year hitting about .280 in 500+ ABs. His skills didn't just suddenly disappear. They should have either not signed him to a 3 year deal in the first place, or they should have released him in Spring Training.
