Fred White: Why Joe Milton is THE Vols QB. No denying that for Tennessee Football. Defense and Dylan Sampson

Fred knows his football. Little things can turn things around and he explains them. Instead of what you here on here a lot, which is we suck we’re doomed. Teams improve, we are closer to being real good than many realize. But we can’t afford to be lax or complacent and we must continue to get better upfront on O and in the secondary. Our young players have to keep improving. Joe needs to keep improving and stay positive. GBO

Dave doesn't know jack about football but he's a pretty good interviewer.

That he does and completely agree. The majority of the mistakes the team made in those first couple games are correctable and I thought they did a nice job of improving Saturday. Sure it was UTSA as some will remind us, but they handled business and looked like an SEC team should look against an inferior opponent. It has to start somewhere.

After looking at the difference in physical development between Milton and Nico, I think it's a no-brainer that Joe Milton should be the QB, absent injury. Nico needs a year in Tennessee's weight development program, just so he doesn't get killed with that mediocre offensive line of ours in front of him.

It’s easy to see. They don’t trust Joe with the inside throws. We don’t keep the LBs and safeties honest with threats over the middle.
There could be some truth to this. Joe's issue with passes too high or behind the receiver have a greater risk of INT in the middle of the field.

Look, people need to stop hyper focusing on Milton as the root cause of this team's problems. He's not been perfect. He's made mistakes, yes. But anybody who understands football can look at this team and recognize that it has way worse deficiencies than at QB. The OL continues to be a huge problem. Poor tackling on defense continues to be a huge problem. Undisciplined play and mental errors continue to be a big problem. Receivers dropping passes continue to be a huge problem. So I say, let's get all the other issues on this team fixed first and see where we're at. THEN we can complain about QB play if it continues to cost us games.

Why would inside throws be difficult for Milton---or anybody, for that matter. It's basic stuff if you're a QB.
