"The Marlins had talked internally about firing Fredi Gonzalez earlier this season and were preparing to make a move -- and then their timetable was backed up by the Hanley Ramirez incident. The Powers That Be realized that if they made the move at that time that firing Gonzalez would be seen as an implicit endorsement of Ramirez's actions and statements about the manager, and so the Marlins held off -- rightly. Gonzalez as manager of the Marlins has been a dead man walking since the end of last season, when folks in the team's baseball operations had to talk owner Jeffrey Loria out of firing him, and then going into this season, Loria indicated he expected the low-budget Marlins to contend for a championship, a goal that was probably unrealistic given the lack of depth in the team's roster at the Major League level."
This is my first post in this forum. I usually only post about football. And anyone who has read my post b4 knows that I am rarely serious and have never claimed to have any "inside info." However in this case I do. A good friend of mine is a low level executive for the Braves. I ask him all the time for info and don't get much out of him. But in this case he told me that the Braves have had informal discussions with Fredi's agent and that there is serious mutual interest from both parties. He said that this is the reason that the Marlins fired him and that barring any unforseen issues that Fredi Gonzalez WILL be the next manager of the Braves. And this may be announced pretty soon. He may even work with the team in some capacity this season.
