Lettermen to make 'Vol Walk'
By Randy Moore
Date: Aug 26, 2004
In his ongoing effort to close the gap between UT and its former athletes, Vol athletics director Mike Hamilton has arranged for dozens of lettermen to participate in the ''Vol Walk'' prior to the Sept. 5 football opener against Nevada-Las Vegas. They also will be recognized on the field at halftime.
In addition, the lettermen will be feted with a reception Sept. 4 at a Knoxville restaurant.
Lettermen dating to the 1930s will be taking part.
''The Volunteers have enjoyed great success through the decades,'' Hamilton said. ''This is a small way that we can show our appreciation to the football players that helped build the national recognition we enjoy today.''
Former coaches Doug Dickey, Bill Battle and Johnny Majors are scheduled to attend. Former Vol standouts Willie Gault, Andy Kelly, Bill Bates and Condredge Holloway also expect to be on hand.
