Schools cut lunch options for kids who can't pay - Health - Diet and nutrition - msnbc.com

It's ok if you can't pay. We'll just raise the food cost onto the kid's parents who are paying. And if you continue to not pay we will give you a free grilled cheese and a fruit drink. There is a lesson to be learned young kid. Do nothing and the government will support you and pass it onto the working person. Oh, and there is a union job waiting for yoy out there if you do decide to get a job. Either way, we'll make sure your taken care of.

Sounds like the Schools are using the Obamacare logic on this one. Hope and change is in full swing.

I don't know guys - arrest the parents, kick the **** out of them, throw them in jail - whatever you guys want, but don't let kids go hungry.

I realize that in theory this is very similar to what's happening on a much larger scale with adults in this country, but don't you think it's a little ridiculous to expect an elementary school kid to come up with the money for his lunch? Say what you will about the parents, but IMO 5-10 year old kids shouldn't have to go hungry at school.

This.

It's not the kids' faults.

It's ridiculous that any child should go hungry in this country, especially with all the money the government waste on other countries around the globe.

Too many kids already go hungry. For some a meal at school is the largest/best meal they will eat in a day. No reason for a kid to go hungry at school.

This would be amazing for test scores. Our school just started giving out free breakfast to every student. It is suppose to really help test scores. We will see.

Did you read the article? No child is going hungry, they just have a very bland offering. The parents need to either 1) pay or 2) sign up for free or reduced lunch if they can't afford it.

It's unfair that parents responsible enough to pay for their kids' lunches have to foot the bill because Mom wanted a pack of smokes or couldn't be bothered to wake up from her booze-filled slumber to give junior 3 bucks for lunch.

If a family can't afford to feed the children they need to cut back or apply for the free/reduced lunch program.

I wish to God some politician would step up to the mic and actually say that, just like that.

This is what this country needs.

Bam ... I've opened the door for a perfect Joker joke here.

I agree completely with what you said. Where my disagreement lies is with how the OP said "There is a lesson to be learned young kid. Do nothing and the government will support you and pass it onto the working person". Honestly, I don't think a 5-10 year old kid should have to work in order to be able to afford lunch at school. That's not their responsibility, it's their parents.

It is the American way now. Do nothing and have the working man pay for everything you need.
