8/10-Excellent movie and stayed pretty well true to the lineage of what and how it happend. Hollywood put a little flare in it of course but great movie.

The critics and audiences are clowning it. 6.5 on IMDB and 44% on rotten tomatoes (70% audience). A drama under 7.8 on IMDB is typically a hard pass for me.

You're missing some good movies then. That's giving IMDB too much credit. Any site which calls The Shawshank Redemption the best movie ever has issues with it's voting system. Shawshank wasn't even the best movie of 1994. I will usually read the user reviews listed as most helpful but not pay much attention to the rating (unless it's below 6 - then it probably does suck).

Only saw the last 12 or so mins. found it pretty boring and bland. definitely has a "history/a&e channel original miniseries" feel to it. haven't heard any good things about it either (save for the op).

Luckily..... You have eyes to watch it and form your own opinion rather then miss out on something that may be bad (or great) in other eyes. Don't let others thoughts govern yours people.... Good movie and told a true story within the hugely talked about and scrutinized Civil War.

It's not the site, it's the wisdom of the crowd. Users rate it. Name any 6.5 that you think is a good drama

Shawshank is a great ****ing movie.

I haven't seen it yet, but could tell from the preview that I'd like it.
