Saw this in one of the political quizzes - thought it was an interesting way to gauge one's basic view of freedom.

For me, Freedom To wins out. What say you?

not necessarily, unless the freedoms from were written specifically to cover the freedoms to. Then you're essentially back to freedoms to.

I had to think about it for a second before answering and it seems to me one is hard to have without the other.

no doubt. In fact, I think to truly be free, you have to grant individual freedom to, while also limiting gov't by delineating freedoms from.

My initial reaction is that Freedom To means the govt ain't going to tell me I have to do this or that etc.

Freedom From means I'm protected from things happening to me.

I'm confused too. I think I could write just about every freedom out there using either form.

That's why I included the "Do What?" option.

Philosophical musing sucks - how many ribs do you have to get removed for that other thing?

I already told you. I didn't have to have any removed. But I'm glad I have the freedom to in case I need it.

freedom from comes with responsibility.

freedom to reminds me of bunch of whiny hippies for some reason.

Freedom to:

exercise my 2nd Amendment rights

exercise my 1st Amendment right to consider Obama a socialist and Joe Biden a belligerent, misogynistic sot.

To counter:

Freedom from sounds like the PC/offended crowd - I should be free from being subjected to offensive statements, actions, etc.

Freedom to suggests I'm free to offend anyone and they're free to try to kick my butt for doing so :)
