I own or have seen:

Inside, Martyrs, Frontiers, High Tension, Irreversible, Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, Let the Right One In, A Serbian Film, Ils, Them, Ichi the Killer... I could go on. (Not all French of course but I did include foreign in title)

Has anyone seen foreign film and what are your opinions on it? IMO they push the envelope further.

I enjoyed Dead Snow. It was a dark horror comedy and I thought was fun. One of my favorites is Dog Soldiers, an English werewolf film. Acting isn't too great but the Werewolves are unique and creepy. One of my all time favorites is Dead Alive (braindead) by Peter Jackson. I saw one film in Germany called Creep which I thought was pretty cool.

I recently watched Lair of the White Worm and Rawhead Rex which were hilariously bad.

I also am a fan of the old Italian horror movies like Zombi 2, City of the Living Dead (Gates of Hell), Tombs of the Blind Dead (Spanish film). They are a bit hokey nowadays to watch but Zombi 2 for sure is still pretty gnarly. You have zombies fighting sharks!

Dead Alive is also one of my faves I forgot to add. I picked it up a few years ago for a few bucks and watched it quite a few times. It has a great feel to it. Humorous, but not stupid enough to turn you away.

Trivia on Dead Alive..that beginning scene is also the place where Peter Jackson filmed some bits of LoTR. I believe as the crew went to the army of the dead place.

Jackson made another movie Bad Taste before that and it has its moments. The Kiwi accents are pretty hard to understand sometimes. He also made a movie called Meet The Feebled which is the Muppets on heroin. It is pretty weird.

I'm surprised at how many of those I've actually seen, I'm more into surrealism (Lynch, Jodorowsky, etc.). I remember a certain scene in Irreversible involving a fire extinguisher that left me quite sick to my stomach.

I always found the British and European vampire/Dracula movies to be darker and more disturbing. The ones with Cristopher Lee still give me the chills.

High Tension was pretty good but had a hard time with the way it turned out. But, you can beat the opening scene with the severed head

When I watched it I was really liking it. Good movie. Then the ending happened and I was pissed. It was a load of crap.
