That 2017 season was rock bottom for this program in my mind. It wasn't enough for us to go winless in SEC play and lose 8 games for the first time in program history. No! The trash can gimmick, along with Butch's other stupid gimmicks, only solidified us as the laughing stock of the SEC and D1 football in general. Now fast-forward to today and we're expected to go 10-2 and have a shot to make the playoff. It's pretty mind blowing how far we have come from the days we had to endure Butch and his stupid cliches and his goofy turnover trash can. My God, that stuff was cringe.

2017 was bad all around. The coaching fiasco was probably worse than the season actually. Not Schiano Sunday-I am proud of that actually.

There was about a week or two after that where Currie was flailing. Nobody would take the job. It was embarrassing.

I still think 2020 was worse all things considered. We started the season so good and things just fell apart so quickly that it was mind boggling. Then the rumors near the end of the season and the flat out announcement of investigations before the last game. Hell, we were still playing regular season football on Dec 14. I am still going to count the events in January of 21 as part of the 20 season.

That day was one of the worst days of my life. It was like a dear relative had died.

I'm not mad or hate butch or the previous coaches. They just were not the right people. Simple as that. Im pissed at the leadership and decision makers who thought it would be a great idea to hire them.
This. The AD as a whole should be ashamed of themselves and the state of the program from 2005-2020. Mike Hamilton and Company are just as responsible for the worst era of UT football as anyone else. His administration let Fulmer hang around too long, hired Lame to his crappy contract, then Doolander.

Dave Hart did ok, but bought into a snake oil salesman's pitch. Then out of left field came Fulmer to save the day. I still think we were collectively in denial about his ability to actually be an AD.

BUT

I will say this. Without all that, we wouldn't have Danny and Josh. If they can actually complete this turn around, then maybe it will undo some of the sting of the last two decades.

I couldn't give two schianos about turnover celebrations on the sidelines. Does the spiked shoulder pads of UGA or the big gold of Miami (?) look like something profound?

The rock bottom is losing to Georgia State and BYU at home in the same season. Team was completely unprepared and lost. That's the fiasco, imo.

But, but, but we're "Champions of Life". What a debacle!

Why even bring up those years, we are about to start a new season, with alot of potential.
But I agree with the above post about the weak AD Leadership. If any big-time University offers you a boatload of money to coach their program, what are you going to say? YES will be the reply of most Coaches, so why fault them, each one did the best that they could. It just wasn't good enough.

Little did we know that NO, the worst was yet to come with a bubba gump to infiltrate us for lord saban and go 3-7 with the worst record since 1909, while paving the way for a recruiting scandal that cost us millions of dollars and probably a few recruits.

I agree. If we were winning big football games nobody would have thought too much about the trash can.

But c’mon Botch…a trash can?? You couldn’t see where this was heading?

Fwiw, we were not even the close to the first team to use a turnover trash can, we were just the one that got raked over the coals for it because people love to take a **** on Tennessee whenever they can.
