There are definitely a ton of things that factor into climate. As far as the "control of our destiny' thing, it makes me wonder what your feelings are on religion.

.

Thoughts?

Good stuff right here!

Not sure what you are getting at but here's my take:

My religious view is that we individually control our own destiny. Whatever the creator is, we are gifted with free will.

As for mankind controlling it's own destiny (e.g. stopping global climate change)? In theory it does but in practice individual choice makes collective control of destiny a moot point.

Sorry, it is from the global climate change. I read it as IP replying to whomever that you believe in God and not global warming because of the control of our controversy thingy!

I wasn't trying to lure you into a "gotcha moment." If you'd rather not discuss, that's cool.

It is often brought up how similar global climate change is to a religion by skeptics, but often those same skeptics have a religion of their own and thus the arguments they adopt against GCC run counter to their own belief systems as much if not more so.

"Belief" is a funny thing, and so is "destiny." I personally think "destiny" is romantic nonsense at worst, and a poor description of string theory at best.

If there were a "destiny," it's already going to happen however it will, and your "choices" have already been made. Insert OE "Matrix" references here.

Opinion polls show two-thirds of us do not believe global warming is man-made and more than 30,000 American scientists (including more than 9,000 with Ph.D.s) have signed a petition saying there is no convincing scientific evidence that human activity will cause catastrophic global warming. A group of scientists called the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC) has produced an 880-page rebuttal of the latest IPCC report containing more than 4,000 references to peer-reviewed science.

"To be ignorant of one's ignorance is the malady of the ignorant." --American teacher, writer and philosopher Bronson Alcott (1799-1888)

"Nothing is more terrible than ignorance in action." --German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1834)

"There is no global Warming. NONE. The earth is cooling. There is no effect of co2. Co2 is 1/3 of one percent of the atmosphere and you breath it out. Plants must have co2. So the entire basis for “Tax and Trade” is a hoax and a subterfuge to get your money and give it to parasites.

Alternative fuels are a joke. We just hit the greatest oil reserve in the WORLD beneath the Bakken shale in North Dakota. These wells produce 1000 bls a day. One well there is producing 2000 bls per day!! —

We have all the oil we need for 50 years. Exxon has just found monster gas reserves in British Columbia using shale drilling techniques that dwarf the big Texas play (Barnett shale) that is so productive it drove gas down to $3.50 mcf from $11.00. Natural gas will go to 75 cents mcf within two years.

The question is -do we want to kill this country or make it thrive? Stop the madness. Demand your elected representatives not worship the false God of environmentalism." Anon

"CAP-AND-TAX, like the planned takeover of the health care industry, is a TAX AND POWER grab. Pure and simple. These Marxist do not care about your health. They do not care if this country has adequate energy. They do not even know or care that CO2 is an essential ingredient to life on this planet. They only demonize it to try and legitimize their scam.

They care about nothing, BUT POWER AND CONTROL and that includes TAXING you into a government-run society. Hence, CAP-AND-TAX. This says nothing about other purposes that go to international power and scope....." Anon

This article was written way back in 2001.

Until Americans understand how Greens really think, they will never understand that they are united against everything that has made America great. They oppose our economic system – Capitalism – and they oppose virtually every aspect of the lifestyle it provides, i.e., our technologically marvelous automobiles, our homes filled with time and labor-saving devices, our extraordinary agricultural, ranching and fishing industries that put food on our plate every day, our timber industry that uses a totally renewable resource – wood – so that we can build new homes for our growing population, and just about everything else we identify as American.

This is the essential evil of environmentalism. Not that it doesn't make sense to insure we have clean air, clean water, and restrict unnecessary emissions and the wastes generated by a modern society, but that they would run that society like a totalitarian government. The Greens, at heart, are despots, convinced of their righteousness, called to tell everyone how many children they should have, how many cars they can own, where they can live, what work they can pursue.

The Greens are the Taliban of America.

I have an idea, why don't we have a huge birthday bash for Vladimir Lenin, we can call it Earth Day and all the dumbed down kids won't catch on until it's too late and besides they'll all be into growing organic marijuana by then and won't even care.

That comment wasnt directed at you IP. I know what you were asking. OE just wants to get everyone going about religion again.

if the Yellowstone super volcano ever erupts, whatever we think of destiny or AGW is going to be thrown out the window.
