I actually think it is finally So Car's year. We'll see but I think UF will stumble.

Three of the 4 worst teams in the SEC may come from the East this year... it really isn't too much better than Low.

Florida will still have a lot of players on defense. New players, but good players. I know, I know it could be 2007 all over again, but I think they'll beat Garcia senseless.

Dont count your blessings just yet Gator.

i just posted the link from what tony barnhardt (a respected pundit) wrote.

i have nothing to do with this.

if you want my opinion, if john brantley stays healthy and is half as good as i think he is.......florida will have an easier time winning the East than Alabama will winning the West.

and yes, i think alabama is the superior team.

but, the gap between florida and the rest of the SEC East is vast.

If not now then when for South Carolina?? This is as down as the east has been and is going to be for awhile to come.

I apologize, it was not meant to be a shot at you personally it irritates me that everyone seems to think they can sleep walk through the east and punch their ticket to ATL.

Spurrier used to joke that the two most overrated stats in college football were time of possession and Philip Fulmer's winning percentage.....

Steve Spurrier is the new Fulmer. The game has passed him by, and only he and the blind Chicken faithful cannot see the truth.

His schemes don't fool anyone anymore, and his recruits are mid-pack SEC talent. South Carolina was, is, and will be, a "spoiler" in the SEC, East. That, and nothing more.

In the East, it's UF...Georgia or Tennessee (yep, I said it)...South Carolina or Kentucky...and finally Vandy.

UT finishes no worse than fourth, and USCe is no better than second, and probably no better than third.

It might be Spurrier's year to beat UT, but his only chance of going to the SEC Championship is to win tickets from Dr. Pepper.

We're still UT, and that's gotta be killing SOS.

Just like the Colonel, we still do chicken right.

Go Vols.

I feel like your characterization of Spurrier clashes with your characterization of SC. I think Spurrier could still be good. Admittedly, he's lost some fire. But I think if you gave him a recruiter like Orgeron or someone and put him at an uncursed school, he'd be fine. I'm not sure if anything about UT is killing him. He's .500 against us with the freaking Gamecocks. I say he's still got the upper hand on us.

If Florida's running backs/receivers prove to be good football players as opposed to the glorified track stars they looked like last year, they'll be fine.

I think SC is going to be strong. FLA will be good, but as we all know, things happen. Who knows this year? Crapshoot.

well, i can't lie.

i'm one of those who think florida can still sleep walk their way to atlanta.

Bottom line, i don't see them losing within the division.

it's awfully hard to make up that two game (virtual) advantage.

in addition, while everyone holds the possibilty that florida may slip up along the way (besides the alabama game).......i am very confident that the other teams in the East will most certainly slip up along the way (regardless of the outcome of their games against florida).

i'm sorry, but when people are looking to south carolina as a possible favorite......it's hard not to be confident.

99-

How is that DLine going to be?

3 seniors will start.

i don't think people understand what the recruiting meyer has done at florida now means.

this isn't 2007 when the 2006 team left and a bunch of kids had to come in and play.

the 2008-09 gators are gone and there are a bunch of juniors who are finally playing.

four of five offensive lineman come back. the running backs all come back. 4 or 5 receivers who have been in school for 2 or more years are back. the qb is a highly thought of player who has waited his turn.

the defensive side of the ball is the same thing.

i would wager florida is the most experienced team in the division.

South Carolina's gonna do what they do every year: win 6 outta their first 7 and then maybe one more when Spurrier implodes on his QB. Rich (UF) get richer while the poor (USClite) get stuck holding the gas pump...

I don't see any reason why anyone but Florida should have a chance in the division. As long as CUM continues to out-recruit everyone in the East, it will be that way.

Sadly, I don't think the Vols will ever beat the Gators again. By my math, we have 3 more chances before December 2012, and then the world ends, in accordance with ancient Mayan prophecy.

Hopefully our basketball team can deliver at least an SEC title by then.

Barnhart is a gator homer, in tight with urban meyer. I wouldn't believe much of what he writes.

just for fun......what would y'all predict? what's barnhardt supposed to pick?

vandy and ky......i think we agree that's a "no"

i think most on here agree tennessee is rebuilding. that's a "no"

georgia. needs vast improvement on defense. has an unknown at qb. never beats florida.

sc. really? they are going to win the east and beat enough of the following.....arkansas, alabama, auburn, florida, georgia. which one of those games will south carolina be favored?

then, there is florida. the biggest problem florida has is that they have to play bama on the road. well, tennessee and carolina play bama too. florida has a bye week before the most important game of the year (IMO), georgia.

Projected depth chart on defense for Florida (just to give you an idea of how much talent and experience UF still has on that roster):

DE: Sr Justin Trattou, Sr Duke Lemmens
DT: So Omar Hunter, Sr Lawrence Marsh
DT: RS Jr Jaye Howard, Sr Terron Sanders
DE: Jr William Green, RS So Earl Okine
OLB: Sr AJ Jones, So Jon Bostic
MLB: RS Fr Jelani Jenkins, RS So Brandon Beal
OLB: Sr Brandon Hicks, Sr Lorenzo Edwards
CB: Jr Janoris Jenkins, Fr Jaylen Watkins
CB: Sr Moses Jenkins, RS So Jeremy Brown
FS: Jr Will Hill, Fr Matt Elam
SS: Sr Ahmad Black, So Josh Evans

That's a lot of talent and experience. Sanders and Marsh both started all of 2008, but they'll be back ups in 2010 because Hunter and Howard are so talented. Trattou might be the most experienced end in the conference, and he can play inside and outside. Hicks and Jones have both been starters since 2008. Ahmad Black led the country in INTs in 2008, and Janoris Jenkins and Will Hill have both been starters since they stepped on campus in 2008.

Who else in the division can field a defense with that much talent and experience in big games? No one. That's why many fans in Gainesville are confident.

The defense will be solid. The offense will determine how good Florida can be.
