FSN: UT no challenge for Mizzu

I want The Vols to win this one bad. The company I work for just bought out another company in St Louis and the folks that came over from their have been talking some trash.

Go ahead and look past us Mizzu. You may be in for a reality check come Saturday.

Almost beat them last year with our coaching staff tied behind our back! :neener2::shaking2::victory:

if a sunseri defense could hold this offense to ~70 yards in the first half, i feel like with this staff we should be able to keep them under 21 points.

Missouri has now learned about the importance of playing four quarters. Keeping the game close is important for a young team as the cliche states. It should be a game that TN could win.

Let's just lace 'em up Saturday, and we'll have our answer for all the doubters when they lose a second time in a row at home.

Stop worrying about what some idiot talking head has to say!

They have a job to do and must write something to get their paycheck.

They're obviously clueless that our starting QB was hurt and got that injury hurt again but worse in the bama game which is why we changed to a freshman QB.

Most so-called analysists and talking heads really don't know our program as well as we do and the truth is that most on here really KNOW nothing but we all love to speculate and post our guesses and opinions.

We'll know the facts at the end of what should be a tough but a good game.

Their D is good but after Shaw limped on the field and ripped them in the 4th quarter for a huge comeback Win I happen to like our chances against Mizzou no matter who our QB is as long as he can hit our WR's and TE's and they can actually hold on to the ball.

I expect a really tough, close game with our Vols coming home with another WIN because they WILL be damned determined to show the world that they're alot better than what people saw last week.

We'll leave the "show me" state of Missouri after we show them the real Misery of smashmouth Tennessee Vols football.

#BrickbyBrick...VFL...GBO!!!

Don't know how this game ends up but I do know we beat a much better South Carolina team than they played. Without Shaw for most of the game, UT would've beaten the doors off Carolina. Missouri has padded their resume with beaten up teams (most of them beaten up by us) and creampuffs.

Hmmm, point well taken. At the same time, I think the VOLS could have looked considerably better against all three, let alone some other team.

I will say this...against bammer we at least looked much, much better in the second half. Could not say that about Oregon or Florida, so hopefully that represents progress.

Jones in his presser today stated that we were in fact capable of playing better than we did in the first half vs bammer, and I believe it.

Oregon runs a system that is specifically tailored to defeat traditional style teams, and to do so with lessor talent.

Bama runs a system that is specifically tailored to defeat every team due to an impressive talent gap.

Where Bama beat us senseless, Oregon ran us ragged. I don't see a team that is built to handle both opposing styles of play equally. You can be great at defending one, and really bad at the other, or vice versa.

It is difficult for a team like us, in a transition both schematically and talent wise, to hold up well to both of those assaults.

We are headed in the right direction, and a spanking by both the number 1 and number 2 team in the country doesn't change that trajectory in my view. As I am positive that few, if any, teams could play them both and come away having won either of those games.

Here is a spreadsheet showing talent averages and performances in relation to those for every team in the SEC. As you can see, Mizzou has had a very soft schedule. Their two wins against teams with more average talent (UGA and FL) are both relatively explainable, as is their loss to SCAR.

As you can see, talent predicts about 80% of all SEC matchups, and that has held true to date this year.

If you are having trouble deciphering that chart, let me explain. Each team has its schedule ranked by four year trailing recruiting averages. the subject team for each rectangle is highlighted in yellow. This means that any team above the yellow team should be a predicted loss, any team below the yellow team should be a predicted win. If the two teams have played, being highlighted in red means that the yellow team lost, highlighted in green means the yellow team won, white means they still haven't played.

Florida is, as per usual under Muschamp, inexplicably losing games. Muschamp is the biggest under-performer in relation to talent of all NCAA coaches. LSU lost two games they should have won, and won two games they should have lost, so they are actually tracking right along what talent would predict they should win using raw numbers. UT is exactly where we should be, and I doubt that changes this weekend. Vandy beat UGA, but that is explainable due to UGA's decimation at skill positions after the UT game. Mizzou beat UGA and Florida . UGA is explainable for the same reason that Vandy's win over them is, and UF is explainable for the reason that Muschamp should be (and likely will be before the end of next season) fired.

After being so wrong against Bama about how competitive our Vols would be, I will be watching this game with no real expectations. I will instead be watching this game to learn more about what this team is made of.

Our "valiant effort" against UGA was supposed to be our last gas in the tank. See how that went.

Why is anybody upset with this article? I have full believe in Butch & Co. but this team this year hasn't even been descent on the road. The best this team played this year on the road was at UF and we all know how well that went. Quit getting mad about articles that hit the nail on the head. GBO!

I do not believe them being road is why they lost, its b/c they played Oregon, Alabama, and Georgia when they were ranked #6, but that is when they started to come into their own. They also lost to Florida b/4 the VOLS hit their stride. The media loves to take little nid bits out of facts and create issues; w/ the exception of maybe the Georgia game (I doubt it), if you switch all of their home games to away games, and vice verse, they would still practically have the same record.....

Beating a quality team, I mean any sec team on the road is the next step for Butch and the Vols. I have a lot of confidence in this group. This seems like Miss St last year. I really feel this year's team can do this.
