FSU Board of Trustees to start formally getting out of the ACC

It depends somewhat on success. Tennessee came in between 13 to 15 in past years but was 5th last year when they finally had a good year again. If these teams win, their following rises dramatically. SEC has the big 6 of Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Tennessee. Kentucky is great in Basketball. Of the expansion teams, you can consider Oklahoma, Texas, and A&M among that group now. The two Texas teams make the most $ based on most rankings. I do think Ohio State has the biggest fanbase of any program, however. Notre Dame has a very large following as well but it is slipped over time because they haven't been a true contender since the 1980s.
Yeah, ND has fallen back some but they’re still national. It does change a little for basketball but football still rules the roost no matter what Kentucky fans say!

Agreed. Michigan and Ohio State are to the Big Ten as Alabama and Texas are to the SEC. Penn State is a huge brand, sure, but it's ultimately more akin to present-day Florida/LSU/Tennessee. Any time you're in an airport, take inventory of the people wearing out-of-region college apparel and Michigan just dwarves every other school.
I do think Florida is a national brand but they’re not like Texas, Ohio St, etc.

But then the narrative will be UGA didn’t care. The outcome of that game means nothing relative to the committee’s decision.

True because the committee and others need to protect the mighty "SEC". That was what the decision was about - the SEC and money. I doubt they will win, but I would love to see FSU boat race UGA with its backup QB.

As you probably know I am a Tennessee fan not an SEC fan.

I’d have respected the committee more had they just said it’s about money but they tried to justify what they did talking about the injury, strength of schedule, etc.

Exactly - just say - the reason is that we had to include an SEC school for the money, instead of trying to justify something that was not justifiable.

Like FSU told the SEC prior their joining the ACC, they can kiss our ACC.
May FSU fail in all of their endeavors. Arrogant bunch of dummies.

Go VOLS

Saw an article predicting FSU will leave at a cost of around $100M and three other schools will follow: Clemson, UNC, and...Virginia. Cannot see NC State staying.

I mean, the only school with a large national following in the SEC is Alabama.

I agree and disagree. I think they are a "national" brand, but a lot, a LOT, of that is bandwagon fans.

Once Satan retires and Bama slips back to sucking and/or middle of the road, their national fan base will disappear too.

A "national" brand, almost by definition, has a lot of bandwagoners.

This has me interested in the ACC going forward. I think FSU is looking at 8-5/9-4 records if they join either the SEC or Big Ten.
More power to them if they're leaving. The future of the conference doesn't look promising with Cal,Stanford and SMU joining.

SEC better get Tech. The B1G will take them in a heartbeat. Would say because of where Tech is located, they may very well be one of the hottest ACC properties.

Disagree, there is no value to the SEC to take GA Tech. GA tech is marginal to to the ACC. I also don’t think there is any value in taking FSU, let them go to the B1G and see how their fan base turns.

And to be completely honest I hate non regional conferences. If they were smart the P5 or 4 would settle on 10 team conferences playing 9 conference games and the OOCGs be against the other power conference teams. And of course all of this outside of the control of the NCAA.

Maybe that's because Michigan fans can't wait to get the hell out of Michigan.

The value is keeping OSU and Michigan from playing regularly in Atlanta. I do not think it was an accident Saban took every opportunity he could to play high profile games in Atlanta early in his tenure.

It is the talent base. No one cares about Tech as a team or what they bring market wise. They care about where they play.

I would say that GT is more aligned with the B1G mindset than the SEC, but overall the only reason to reach out to them is to keep the B1G out of our backyard. I’m not even sure it would be that big of a deal if they went to the B1G. GT doesn’t move the needle at all. Atlanta is already an SEC town, a UGA town. That won’t change all of sudden.

Rumor have picked up that Clemson and FSU are heading to the SEC and UNC/UVA are heading to the B1G. I was hoping SEC could get UNC because they are regional to Tennessee and would be great for Basketball.

Big mistake to take Clemson. I would trade UNC for Clemson as Clemson is heading back to the abyss as Dabo has lost his OC and DC that were making him look good.

Where are you seeing this?

But yeah, I’d rather have UNC, but they can probably be more competitive in the B1G

GA Tech would be another Vandy revenue drain in the SEC. They'd be a revenue drain in the B1G also.

At this point for the SEC and B1G, a school needs to bring something to earn that big check.

GA Tech alone doesn't bring much but as a package with UVA, UNC, etc...... like the B1G did raiding multiple schools from the PAC...... it might make sense.

I'm skeptical. Maybe Syracuse, Boston College, Pitt, etc take GA Tech and Miami into a "new Big East" that's a G5+/P4- conference.
