FSU Board of Trustees to start formally getting out of the ACC

GA Tech would be another Vandy revenue drain in the SEC. They'd be a revenue drain in the B1G also.

At this point for the SEC and B1G, a school needs to bring something to earn that big check.

GA Tech alone doesn't bring much but as a package with UVA, UNC, etc...... like the B1G did raiding multiple schools from the PAC...... it might make sense.

I'm skeptical. Maybe Syracuse, Boston College, Pitt, etc take GA Tech and Miami into a "new Big East" that's a G5+/P4- conference.
I honestly wish the ACC would stay intact. I’ve grown up in the heart of ACC country and it would be a crime to see the basketball conference not be together. We all know that this is about football and tv, and I think that there are really only a few schools that bring value. The only savior for the ACC is Notre Dame and I don’t see that happening. It would be nice if Notre Dame would just join the B1G. It makes way too much sense for them not to. It even covers their mission statement now.

Where are you seeing this?

But yeah, I’d rather have UNC, but they can probably be more competitive in the B1G
UNC just had a run of 3 straight big time NFL QB prospects and didn’t win the ACC. They will be South Carolina or Indiana, whichever league they join. Unless…they pour massive amounts of resources into everything football related and hit with a big time coach. I can’t speak for UNC fans, but Mack seems like he’s probably ready to enjoy life after football.

The current drama is about football money and the schools get that money and are happy to fight to get more.

After the NCAA is crippled enough, I fully expect the schools to sue for the basketball tourney money and reorganize March Madness to suit the basketball powers and conference "auto bids" will go away.

It'll suck for tradition, but seed the top 68 and the further you run, the more money your school gets but it's A LOT more money than your current cut.

The NCAA simply withers and dies from lack of funds and football goes one way and basketball goes another way.

I’m afraid you’re right about the tournament. That will be a damn travesty. To me that is incredibly wrong. I feel like football just needs to go in its own direction.

I did look up some stuff about the recent FSU movement and it sounds like they’ve found their out w/ the ACC.

Agree but it is poetic justice as the ACC started most of the realignment by taking Miami, BC, and Va Tech from the Big East. They have been poaching other leagues, constantly, to their benefit.

I think the ACC sees that the complete death of the NCAA benefits none of the schools nor most of the athletes.

The NCAA sucks but it is an archaic organization that keeps college from being pro ball. Without it, ALL schools and athletes will be thrown by the courts into a pro situation. That's going to happen anyway but the slower the better IMO.

Pro ball in college is bad for everyone:
expensive for the schools, devastating for most schools,
likely reducing athletics at most schools and killing it at many schools for young people who aren't elite athletes,
the end of 100+ years of good competition, school spirit, etc.

Several talking heads have been referencing it. There are sources out there stating it. Still it is RUMORs so take it as a grain of salt. Very often, rumors are incorrect in realignment.

Agree about UNC football but whether you take them or Clemson they are going to both be mediocre in football moving forward in SEC but UNC makes your men’s and women’s basketball competition much stronger.

I haven’t looked it up but I would guess that UNC basketball and football viewer numbers combined would be much stronger than Clemson who are only going to have football viewers.

I think everyone can be guilty to a degree when it comes to expansion and realignment. IMO the biggest mistake that was made was after Maryland left the ACC for the B1G, which caused Swofford to get everyone locked down in this terrible deal until 2036. It seemed like a win at the time, but it was just a quick fix that has apparently doomed the conference.
