Fulkerson vs Alexander....

Kyle was a better rim protector and altered the game plan of opposing coaches with his defensive presence while he was on the floor better than John. John has become a much better scoring threat and has shown more hustle than just about any other player I have seen play for the BBALL Vols. Fulk is a better all-around player IMO but I would like to see him improve his rebounding numbers this year. Alexander had more talent but was charmin soft? Lol. Both players improved every year under CRB.

Without a doubt, Alexander had more talent, but holy cow he was Charmin soft.
I don’t agree with either of these assertions, frankly. Kyle never had the offense hinge on him like Fulk did this season, and I don’t think he would’ve done as well had it been. But he also wasn’t soft, and he was vitally important to the team. We probably make back to back trips to the Sweet Sixteen if he’s healthy against Loyola Chicago. Heck we may have gone further, if you remember that year the region really opened up after some upsets. Man, what a missed opportunity. I’m getting side tracked. Kyle was good. John is good

Kyle soft is also ridiculous. Played in 135 games, started 105 averaged more than 12 minutes a game every season he was here and left with a career average of 4.9 rebounds a game and 1.4 blocks a game. His last 2 seasons here he was over 5.5 rebounds a game and 1.7 blocks a game.

I mean I love Fulkerson, but he's only had one productive season thus far in his career. And his minutes ballooned to 30+ while playing in and starting every game last season. That's 6 minutes more a game than Kyle got in his best season here.

23.8 MPG 7.4 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 1.7 BPG, 0.5 SPG for Kyle in his last year vs 30.1 MPG 13.7 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 0.9 BPG, 1.1 SPG for Fulky

I think Kyle was far more raw, but had elite size and athletic ability but Fulkerson is probably the more talented basketball player, especially offensively. Can you imagine how great last season would have been with both of them playing together?... Feel like they are both good players for UT and Fulkerson could have a great final season to cement his legacy here to a different level.

Kyle was not soft and anyone saying that is dumb, he was a vital starter (started every game) for one of the best UT basketball teams of all time. He played his role and he did it well. Given the fact he came in as skinny as he did and missed his redshirt year, I think he did far more than many would've expected from him.

I guarantee you if big ole softy Kyle would have been healthy enough to play against that Nun team back in 2017, we would have won that game and had a great shot to advance deep into the tourney.

That bracket didn't just open up. It completely disintegrated. That was our year to make the FF, imo.

Fulk is better offensively, but Kyle was miles better at rebounding and blocking shots.

Kyle had only been playing basketball a few years when he signed with UT. Alexander might have a higher ceiling but Fulkerson will be the better player during their time at UT.
Professionally, it might be a different story. Kyle already played in the NBA. Now he’s in a situation where his job is to get better at basketball. It would’ve been nice if he could’ve redshirted a year.

Both were great players in their own unique way.

It’s hard to compare them.

This is a bad comparison, Fulk and Kyle were placed in different situations. Kyle always had others out there with him and we never needed him to step up and provide more offensively. If Kyle would have been placed in the situation that John was placed in last year, I believe he would have had a similar stat line scoring as John except Kyle would have provided more blocks, rebounds, and more shooting range. Kyle just never got the shot to shine because we had Grant, Admiral, Lamonte, Bone, and Bowden.

I doubt it’s a given Alexander is more talented. When did we ever hear Caliperi say he tried everyone he had and nobody could guard Alexander? Fulky is faster from my observations.
Fulkerson suffered a very serious injury during his Freshman year and it set him back 2 seasons. Last year was the first year h was able to compete and he will be better this year. He is our force in the middle.
