First of all, I don't want this to turn into a bash Fulmer thread.

IMO if UT has a good year this year and finishes the season around 10-2 or 9-3 fans will still be calling for CPF head. This time instead of wanting him gone due to the bad season everyone will want him gone and Cutcliffe hired since Cutcliffe turned the team around. Any thoughts?

THIS IS NOT MY OPINION JUST TRYING TO START CONVERSATION.

I can't think of any scenario under which I would want mini-Fulmer to become the head coach.

Cutcliffe may have a better offensive mind than Fulmer, but that alone does not make him a better overall coach. He can't recruit very well. That is a must for a UT coach. Landing only instate prospects will not result in a team that is competitive in the SEC. Cutcliffe is just not cut out to be a head coach. Our next coach needs to be some fresh blood. Maybe Bruce Pearl can recommend someone.

I like Cutlcliffe, but I think the idea of hiring a heart attack victim who got fired from Ole Miss is nuts.

Just want everyone to know that this is not my opinion on the subject, but just trying to start a discussion.

there's a certain population of TN fans that will always want CPF gone...that's not going to change...there's another segment of that population that think he can still get it done, but this year will go along way in solidifying that confidence. if we come out and have a 9 or 10 win season, i for one would give him credit for making the necessary changes needed to bounce back like that.

I do not think Coach Cut would be a great fit as HC at TN, regardless of the circumstances. if a change were to be made, there are better candidates out there than CDC.

As long as we are playing the "what-if" game... What would be your take on Chavis as HC material?

I think (unfortunately) that you correct. There will be some who will want CPF gone and Cut to be HC. CPF will get no credit for the coaching changes. BTW there was more than adding Cut back in the mix. But nothing matters to some. Even if we win the BCS NCG some will still want CPF gone and give him no credit. It's sad but true.

don't get me wrong, i think CJC has come a long ways as a DC, esp when you consider how he started, he now regularly is considered one of the better DC's in CFB, and i agree with that, but i don't get the feeling that he would make a great or good HC...someone said it on this board some time back...some people are just not cut out to be HC's, no matter how good a coordinator they are, and i think CJC falls in to that category...

Of course it all depends on how this year ends up, but this will probably be one of the only years that Fulmer and Cutcliffe will be together in Cut's second tour of duty. If Tennessee does well, and goes 9-3 or better, then it is probable that Cutcliffe will get a head coaching job that he will likely take. If Tennessee doesn't do well, Fulmer might be gone, and that would of course mean no Cutcliffe, because the guy wouldn't be an assistant for too many heads out there, with the exception of Weis and Fulmer. Many people believed that Cut would have a good year in South Bend as OC, then take a head coaching job, and it is not unreasonable to believe the same thing could happen this year.

if we are keeping it "in the family" so to speak, i believe trooper is our man, it seems they are grooming him for a promotion anyways, what with the switch in jobs and the bigger role he is playing in recruiting.

Trooper Taylor is exactly as qualified to be a head coach in the SEC as Paris Hilton is to be a member of the United States Senate.

Who will get the most credit for the turn around (IF WE HAVE ONE) Fulmer, Cutcliffe, or Fulmer hiring Cutcliffe???

ahem

a) with the current state of the u.s. government and our representatives and senators, aside from the age problem your paris hilton argument is horrible.
b)trooper will be a head coach one day it's just a matter of when and where. he is something in the neighborhood of 36 years old, there is plenty of time for him to develop the skills necessary to be a head coach.

now read me where i said it would be soon.

I hope he gets hired at an SEC school or someone we play on occasion in the nonconference schedule. That will be one less team we have to worry about. Trooper Taylor is nothing more than the bankrupt man's version of Rodney Garner. People act like jumping around like a 5 year old with a belly full of Skittles somehow makes someone a quality coach. He's all style, no substance.

i'll tell you what, he got the running backs working harder. if the wide receivers follow suit, i stick to my argument. if not, i'll give it to you

Trooper Taylor is NOT Head Coaching material. Maybe at the high school level, but never, ever in the SEC. He will NEVER even be a Coordinator in the SEC.
