WVLT: Sanders resigned but will finish out the season.

Fulmers comments (summarized)

Its been a difficult season for everyone. The results are not any one person's fault. Randy is a true Volunteer, an outstanding coach, and a great friend. We are a few plays away from having a great season. Randy has unselfishly asked to step down at the end of the year. I am sad that it has come to this. The playcalling duties will be shared by the offensive staff.

Sanders comments (summarized):

UT has meant a lot to me the last 22 years. It's been a big part of my life. I will miss this place. The last few weeks have brought me to the realization that there is a lot more to life than this. Things are out of kilter. I don't know that it's all my fault, but it's my ship. I am looking forward to winning the next four games. My efforts will not slow even though I won't be back next year.

I split this out of the other topic so it was easier to read. Those are my summaries of what I heard.

They also announced that Washington, Stevens, and Slade are expected to be gone by the end of the year.

Unless I misheard that I don't know. I was watching WVLT, Rick Russo. I was listening and typing at the same time so I have no idea.

Several sources have reported all day that Washington and Stevens would be gone by the end of the year. I am not sure where th Slade reference came from. I am wondering if I heard that wrong but I swear that is what it sounded like he said.

Why Slade?  The DBs have been outstanding.  That makes no sense.

Slade is stepping down due to health issues.

I think SLade is retiring and has nothing to do with the 05 season.

Maybe that's what he was referring to. Like I said, I was listening and typing at the same time.

wow I missed it so much for listening to the sports animal...
yea Slade is retiring due to health reasons...can't say I'm not happy either, he's a weak recruiter and the DBs havent been outstanding, they're the weakest part of the defense

Nothing mentioned about coach Cut, or even what the O will do this week. I would assume to take the rumors as gospel, as it makes sense... Fulmer calls the plays with the help of RS.

He has been dropping hints all weekend that he would like to get back inVOLved here. Many don't think it would be good for him to come back... I think he is probably the best man for the job.

I like DC, but I kinda think it's time for new blood.

I won't complain if he comes back, though.

Was it just me or was Randy Sanders really emotional? Just listening to him talk on how much he loved this school kind of made me sad he was leaving.

I'll complain. We need someone in here who doesn't have a preconceived notion of what UT football is all about.

yea he did sound kinda choked up..can't really blame him I heard from the reporters in the locker room after the loss that his wife and daughters were crying in a corner... I wish him the best in the future

I kinda liked the idea of him moving back down to a position coach. As AllVoll pointed out before, he coached up a LOT of great UT RBs.

I think at this point he has no choice but to leave UT tho. His family has been hurting from the fallout of this poor offensive season... the rumors about what people have done are kind of unbelieveable... but it sounds like he has to leave Knoxville for the health of his family. I wish RS well.
