According to History do you think the Vols can manage and 9-10 win season after last year?

I agree about Ainge and the team as a whole when it comes to confidence.

Winning and on the field success could take the team to a 9-10 win season.

Tennessee needs to copy lil' 11, aka big 10 football, and run the ball 80% of the time this year, along with playing staunch defense and special teams. :birgits_giggle: :blush2:

The jury is still out on our O-Line. If that gets fixed in August then yes, a 10 win season is a possibility. Continue to struggle as they did in spring and the whole season starts to look a lot different.

I think adding the folks who were not there in spring, plus the quality practice time that comes in August will fix the problem. As of now though, it remains a concern.

I just can't look at that schedule and come up with that number.
I'm a fan and guilty of thinking we can win 'em all. Then I usually come back a little closer to the earth and land around 9 or 10 wins. That is where I am this year.

But I simply can't fathom a .500 season. It ain't in me...

As history shows you can't bet on em and you can't bet against em! So until the season is over the record is a mystery!

that is the issue isn't it? it'll be interesting to see what a difference having our RB's in the backfeild makes....it'll give the defense a better look as well...fall practice will be interesting to follow.

I'd like to think that with Foster and the boys in the backfeild, they'll be able to make the o line look a little better. cause if they can do anything for the running game, obviously, the passing game should be affected positively.

He's an easy one to forget. I remember his opening drive he threw a TD pass that got batted around around before it was caught . . . and that was pretty much the highlight of his year.

You've got to figure that if he lost his job to the freshman version of AJ Suggs . . . .

Matthews got drilled by a Southern Miss Linebacker while throwing that touchdown pass.

I remember having a preseason magazine saying Matthews had the "Heart" of a Volunteer.

What the magazine failed to say was that Clausen would have started if he was not injured.

The "Heart" of a Volunteer. The "Arm" of an eight year old girl.

Word. It'll be hard for Ainge to get his confidence back if he's pulling a Croyle all season and ending up on his butt.

The bad news is that a great running back doesn't make an offensive line look better. Look at Barry Sanders, for instance. Barry Sanders was a truly great running back and he piled up huge rushing numbers, yet his offensive line was still atrocious. A great offensive line can make an average running back look really good, but a great running back can't do the same, and running backs like Barry Sanders that can pile up huge stats even with terrible offensive lines aren't too common. Our offensive line is going to have to suck it up and improve, or our running game will have issues this season.

 Ainge will get his confidence back if the offensive line gives him time to read and throw. If he is on his back early and often in the first game, confidence may be slow in coming. If Ainge is forced to take the snap and duck on every play it will be a long season. He's not a scrambler, he's a three or five step prostyle quarterback.

Our linemen are the keys to Ainge's confidence and our season.
